Nice museum but a disappointment to some extent
This is a really nice museum in terms of the building and the ONE exhibit we could find about the indigenous people was really good. Nice gift shop. Couldn't figure out where the rest of the exhibits were, if there were any.

Take our Time to Learn at the Musee de la Civilisation
A very positive learning experience in an attractively architected building. The exhibit on First Nations was outstanding. I appreciated the creative use of videos and gained an understanding of current challenges. I also toured the exhibition Our Time On Earth, which I found very informative and a great example of the incredible use of technology. There is a classy gift shop with a wide selection. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Very informational expositions on historical & current events
Excellent museum with 3 major exhibits at this time. One was on the science of gender in all of its variations, another was on the history and treatment of Indigenous peoples, and the last on dealing with climate change. Each was very well done. A beautiful museum. It also occurred to me that in the USA it would be considered incredibly “woke” and might make certain people very unhappy or even angry. That would be a shame. Regardless, these exhibits demonstrated that parts of our history (and current realities) are uncomfortable, but they can’t be swept under the rug.

    Well worth the time
MUSEUM OF CIVILIZATION This was a wonderful place to spend a few hours on a rainy day. The museum is well organized and the different exhibits were very well done. The one on climate change and the amazing innovations in science and industry left us feeling more aware and hopeful. Well worth the time.

    Great family museum.
This museum is engaging for both adults and kids. We started in the basement where there is a huge walk through house for the kids to play in. They spent a lot of time there. They even enjoyed the First People’s exhibit and the nature exhibit which had a place to color. It is hard to navigate so I’m not sure we saw everything. The current temporary exhibit in Gender is explicit- I wish there was a warning. I’m not a prude and I’m fine talking about gender identity but the kids saw private parts and wanted to leave. Other than that exhibit, it’s a great place the entire family can enjoy.

    Magnificent Museum
From the outside, this is a very brutal looking building but this contrasts with the exhibitions within. Very helpful staff to guide us round, free coat check. The First Nations area was stunning, with fabulous stories and films. The gender exhibition was fascinating and really explained the difficulties of what seemed to be very confused people. The Barbican exhibits about Our Time on Earth were our favourite. Of course we know our earth is in peril but not sure this offered many solutions. One suggestion was ‘travel less’ which seemed strange for a museum that we’d all travelled to from England and an exhibit that had come all the way from London! We learned a lot from all the parts we visited. We exited through the (great) gift shop …

Don’t assume you don’t care about wrestling and hip hop. Excellent experience.
Great fun. Not a mainstream museum, which beforehand worried me a bit. The exhibits were wrestling, hip hop and (a small one) Quebec law. The first two were surprisingly interesting for me, someone w zero interest in those specific topics. But it’s more about the history and individuals than the topics per se. Great curation/ museum design

We thought this was a museum for adults but it was really geared toward small children. Plus half the exhibit space was special exhibits that were paid for separately so I don’t really know what we were paying for. All in all it was pretty boring.

The Musee offers a great old time way back to early days of Quebec and its history. Many floors of artifacts and culture of the periods of time and of the Country. Takes about 2 hours to go through and tends to be a little $$$.

Thought we would spend a couple hours here on a rainy afternoon in Quebec city. As it turned out we spent three hours. If you take the time to actually read all of the details that explain the exhibits they are very informative.

Very interesting museum where I learnt so much about the history of the First Nations and Quebec. I highly recommend joining the free guided tours, as you will learn so much. I joined two different tours (« This is our Story » and « History of Quebec ») and both were amazing.

Size of the museum and content (# of exhibits) are perfect for a half day visit. While I spent my entire visit on the First Nations exhibit, I wished I had stayed longer to visit the Water exhibit - seemed unique for a museum to display the technical aspect of how the water is treated. I only saw the glimpse from the hallway so I'm guessing this. As other reviewers noted, the cafe is really quaint and worth relaxing in it for a quick bite or a beverage. Menu choices are better than what most museums offer while there was generous spacing of the bistro tables which I appreciated. What caps off a pleasant visit to the museum was the extraordinary helpfulness of the Information Desk representative who helped us navigate where we needed to go in Old QC. There was snow showers. Roads were very slippery and slushy. The weather wasn't friendly to a tourist from afar but his warmth and empathy made a difference.

This is a great rainy day activity. We really enjoyed the exhibition about the history of Québec, arranged chronologically around the room. The exhibition about First Nations in the area was also excellent and very topical. I recommend booking online before you go - the price doesn’t increase and you save yourself a long wait!

We spent more time in this museum than any other museum in our lives, 6 hours! It is a fascinating place, like no other museum we have ever seen. There is a history of Quebec, a section about the First Nations, a kinetic room, and a revealing exhibit about merde, or in English, feces. Did you know that 27% of the water used in the average home is to flush the toilet. It showed how human waste is actually a valuable resource. Ther is a proto type room where they are working to make museum experiences better. For example, using a 3D printer to copy the exhibits so visually impaired people can touch them. If you have time, this is a don’t miss museum.

I cannot explain the theme of this museum as it seems to be a collection of temporary expos on different subject. The building is lovely and well-made for collections. Nice services inside, food and a boutique. Everything is very high quality. Lots to see.

Very interesting and well-laid out museum. A temporary exhibit, "Oh Sh*t!" was funny, entertaining and...educational (ends in March, 2023). Permanent exhibits were also engaging and this place is well worth a visit.

Oh! And stay for lunch! I had a salad with duck (how often do you get that in a museum restaurant) that was delicious. They also had homemade smoothie-type beverages (my partner and I each had the RED one...scrumptious!) and a date bar that was something we're still talking about: SO YUMMY! I find museum restaurants to be hit or miss, and this one was definitely a HIT!

I can't recommend this place enough! Great time!
