Charmed has found a new sister to cast a spell on fans, following the surprise departure of Madeleine Mantock's Macy Vaughn in the season three finale.

Ahead of the reboot's fourth season, The CW has confirmed the arrival of Australian actress Lucy Barrett, who's previously starred in the likes of web series Co-Ed and, of course, Neighbours.

Lucy – who played Erinsborough High student Hayley Hahn on the Ramsay Street soap – will join Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery's Mel and Maggie Vera in the new episodes, but details of her character are being kept firmly under wraps.

As well as a new Charmed One, the supernatural series has switched up its crew behind the scenes, with Jeffery Lieber, Nicki Renna, and Joey Falco replacing previous showrunners Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro.

The new team leading Charmed's fourth season are staying coy about the new character, saying in a statement that it's "just more fun" to keep her "name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie" a closely-guarded secret.

"What we will say is… she's an artist, with a wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life's passion," they teased.

"She's fun, irreverent, impulsive, strong-willed, and will bring a brand new energy to the Power of Three."

Season four of Charmed will kick off where season three's emotional season finale left off, following the tragic death of Macy. As Mel and Maggie's grief threatens to undo the Power of Three forever, the surprising arrival of a new witch gives them hope.

Madeleine Mantock announced her departure from the reboot earlier this year, admitting that it was a "difficult decision" to make.

"I'm incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support", she said. "Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season."

Charmed airs on The CW in the US and E4 in the UK.
