About
The National Emergency Services Museum is located in one of Yorkshire's first purpose built combined police, fire and ambulance stations in the centre of Steel City, Sheffield. Opened in 1983 with just two fire engines and a few small exhibits and only two of the building's 46 rooms open for the public to view. Since then, the museum has grown and grown year by year. There are now thousands of exhibits and 26 exhibition areas, around 45 vehicles on display and many more exhibits and vehicles currently in storage ready to be displayed we are still developing. The Museum is a Registered Charity and does not receive any major funding. Everything that you see here at the museum has been achieved by donations and your entry fees.We are always working to update the museum and make the museum more hands-on and interactive for visitors.

    Great day out
Loads for kids to touch , dress up and vehicles to play in. Lovely little cafe, even backpacks for those with sensory processing difficulties and a quiet room. Loads of fun and suitable from toddler to adult.
Thank you so much for the top review and for your positive comments. We really appreciate your support. I'm so pleased to know that you all enjoyed your visit to NESM and had fun exploring everything our museum has to offer. I hope we will get the chance to welcome you again soon.

    A must if visiting Sheffield
Definitely a must if like us , you are exploring Sheffield for a couple of days. Lots to see and read about on all the services. Raining too much for us to see all the great vechiles outside but the entry ticket is valid for a return visit so it gives you ample time to revisit when you know the weather is going to be dry. Great gift shop and prices are really reasonable.
Thank you for the top review and for your lovely comments - I'm so pleased to know that you enjoyed your visit. We aim to make a trip to NESM as affordable as possible, so it's great to know you found our prices reasonable and that you will make use of your free upgrade to an annual pass. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

    Great museum and sweet cafe
It’s such a well looked after museum. There’s so many vehicles and things of interest. I loved the mobile incubator from the 1960s. It was very spacy! The staff are enthusiastic. My son is additional needs and was very comfortable in this museum once he got used to some of the siren sounds. There’s extra features for children like a little climbing room, quiet room and reading room. You know what I loved too? They made a piece of toast in the cafe perfectly and the tea cake. So many people burn tea cakes. But it’s details like this - not burning toast that make it an enjoyable experience for me.
Thank you so much for the top review, and for your lovely comments. We just love to get feedback like this! We aim to make a visit to NESM a fun, interactive and engaging experience for all visitors, and have worked hard to improve the support we offer for people with additional needs, so it's great to know your son was comfortable with us and able to make the most of his visit. I will definitely pass on your comments about the cafe to our front of house manager - he will be delighted to know our toasting skills are spot on! Thank you again, and I hope we will see you again soon.

Great to be able to go in vehicles
I took my 2 boys 4 & 8 we had a great time. The main reason we went was because they were doing lifeboat tours on that day. It was great that there were vehicles that the kids could actually go in, usually museums of this type are covered in no touching signs. The staff were all really nice and friendly too We parked in the brookshaw park car park that was only 5 mins walk away and very reasonably priced
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a top review and for your lovely feedback. I'm so pleased to hear you all enjoyed your visit and came on the right day to explore our amazing lifeboat. We aim to make a visit to NESM as hands-on and interactive as possible for all visitors, including plenty of opportunities to explore our vehicles, so it was great to know that was your experience. We also pride ourselves on offering all our visitors a very warm, friendly welcome and I'll pass on your lovely comments about our staff to the team. Thank you again, and I hope we will see you all again soon.

    Great Family Afternoon Out
Lovely museum. Interesting and interactive for all ages. How they fit everything in the relatively small footprint at the side of other museums I don’t know, but something to engage all ages.. 6 - 60 in our family visit. Ticket price great value and gives you a years access. Give it a go.
Thank you so much for the top review and for your lovely comments. We pride ourselves on making sure there's something for all ages at NESM, and for being as hands-on and interactive as possible, so it's great to know that was your experience and you enjoyed everything we have to offer. I'm also pleased to know you found us good value, especially as we upgrade to an annual pass for no extra cost. As an independent, self-funded museum we have to raise enough to keep us going but do our absolute best to keep a trip to NESM affordable. Thanks again, and I hope we will see you again soon.

    Finally made it 🚑
Drive from Worcester, well worth the journey .. Lots of old vehicles .. lots of interesting facts to read about .. The station is much bigger than you think .. Car park opposite, pay by phone app .
Thank you for the top review and for your lovely comments. I'm delighted to know that your long journey was well worthwhile and that you enjoyed your day with us. We often describe our building as being like a Tardis as it's much bigger on the inside that it looks on the outside, and you obviously discovered that for yourself. Thanks again, and I hope you will get the chance to visit us again one day.

    Possibly best museum in sheffield
Was an amazingly fun experience with lots of sheffield history, was interesting to learn more about the history of sheffield and more city’s within the UK. The section of cars was my personal favourite followed by the Word War sections, the addition of the life boat was very nice as it wasn’t there when i last went many years ago, Highly recommend, will definitely be going back (tickets being a year return is a bonus!).
Thank you for the top review and for your lovely comments. We really appreciate your support. I'm delighted to know you enjoyed your visit to our museum and all the changes that have been made since your last visit. And we fully agree with your assessment - we think we're the best museum in Sheffield too! Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

    Fab museum!
This is a little gem of a museum! I visited early Sunday morning with my mother. We both love visiting museums and when I saw this museum whilst staying in Sheffield for a weekend we had to visit! It’s not a massive place but they have managed to get so much into the exhibitions. It was good to see all emergency services included. As a serving member of one of those services it was really nice to see the history and how they have developed into how they operate now. We noticed there was plenty of interactive activities for children too so it is a perfect activity for both adults and children. There is a discount for 999 staff on the entrance fee however the fee is reasonable anyway, especially as you are supporting a local attraction and charity. There is also a little cafe which was reasonably priced…the coffee was lovely. We throughly enjoyed it and I would recommend a trip here for sure!
Thank you so much for the top review and for your lovely comments. I'm so pleased to know that you both enjoyed your visit to our museum and found plenty to interest and engage you. We aim to make sure there's something for everyone at NESM so I'm delighted to know that was your experience. I'm also pleased to know that you found us value for money; as an independent, self-funded museum we have to earn enough to keep us going but we do our best to make it affordable too. Accessible Museum for Learning Disabled Adults
My learning disabled (adult) son loves this museum. There is plenty to engage visitors who are non-verbal with sensory needs/autism so a big thumbs up from me for accessibility. Also very family-friendly is the excellent picnic space provided. I love the individual stories used to illustrate the emergency services throughout the museum. This is a real gem of a museum (with excellent, welcoming staff).
What lovely feedback to receive! Thank you so much, and for the top rating. We aim to ensure that there's something for everyone at NESM so it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your visit so much. We've worked hard over the last few years to make our museum more accessible to those with a range of additional needs so it's great to hear that those improvements have really enhanced your visitor experience. I was also really pleased to know you found our staff welcoming; we pride ourselves on being a very friendly museum so it's great to know that was your experience. Thank you again and I hope we will welcome you again soon.

Such a lovely little museum, lots and lots of interesting exhibits for adults to look at about the history of the emergency services, and lots and lots of interactive exhibits to children engaged and occupied, including lots of vehicles for children to play on. We really appreciated the picnic room for our lunch, and there's also a little cafe. We will definitely be back!

Absolutely great visit with cousins ranging from 6-10 years old. A lot bigger than we expected with lots of interactive displays, interesting facts, vehicles to sit in and dressing up which sparked the kids imagination. We had lunch in the cafe and the kids had such a good time we were there for 5 hours, which was fabulous value!

We have visited a few times with our 4year old and 18month old both love it. Enjoyable visit and good value for money with the ticket lasting a year. The highlight for our kids is the outdoor area with the ambulance/boat/fire engines - would recommend to families with young children.
The solly Street ncp is close for parking and not too expensive.

A good variety of emergency vehicles, some that you can sit inside.
Interesting displays and information over 3 floors, inside and out.
Friendly staff and well set out.
Even better the kids got free entry with their blue peter badges. You get free entry for a year when you pay entrance fee.
Well worth a visit.

Really enjoyed it. Took a 2yr old and 5yr old. Both loved it. A sensory day as well. which was suitable for both of them.
Eldest enjoyed the star search. Which is always there for kids to do
reason I've put 4 and not 5 stars is for the younger ones. It would be nice to have the 'fact' also available lower down. Written in larger bold letters- perhaps one sentence. They found the stars. Which was fun. .But for those better at reading still information high up.
Equally enjoyable for adults. We'll be going again both with and without the little ones.
Nice small cafe area.

Thank you taking the time to leave us a positive review. I'm glad to hear your little ones had fun. Our star hunt is something we bring out for event weekends but for the rest of the time we offer an activity pack for kids to do. We really appreciate your feedback on this as we're always aiming to include as many little ones as we can in the activities we offer. I'm happy to hear you will be visiting us again.

I took my four children for the morning to the museum.
We were greeted by friendly staff, who gave the children an activity sheet to solve during our visit.
My children are 12,9,6,1 years old
They were a variety of activities, things to view and interact with for all my children.
The children all had fun.

A lovely museum that my 2yr old loves to visit. He is fascinated by the amount of vehicles to see and loves all the interactive bits. We know he will continue to enjoy coming as he grows up and can access even more.
