Editorial Reviews
Brian Culbertson commemorates his twelfth release with 12 new songs that continue to reflect his broad-ranging musicality and mastery of intimate moods. The titles swing from the rapturous metaphorically rich love ballad "Skies Wide Open" (featuring R&B singing star Avant), the sexy bedroom baby-maker "I Wanna Love You" (featuring singer/guitarist Ray Parker Jr.), the strings-kissed dance jam "Another Love" (featuring 21st century soul man Kenny Lattimore) and the cool club persuader "Out On the Floor" (featuring balladeer supreme Brian McKnight) to the slammin' attitude jam "Don't U Know Me By Now" (featuring powerhouse Faith Evans), a journey through the many moods of being entitled "That's Life" (featuring Earl Klugh who co-penned it along with fellow Detroit native Parker and Culbertson), a think piece on the meaning of it all titled "I Don't Know" (featuring spoken word enchantress Natalie Stewart of Floetry), and an all-out Go-Go party jam titled "Feelin' It" (featuring the man who put Washington, D.C. Go-Go Music on the map, Chuck Brown in addition to a comedic appearance by Sinbad). Four more instrumentals round out the album, including the lovely dreamscape "Waiting for You" and the incredibly funky "Stay Wit It" on which he takes a rippin' Moog solo.

I am an avid Jazz enthusiast and I know that some jazz lovers may be a little disappointed. To those critics "Chill Out" This CD is FUN!
I love XII. It is very original. Brian has managed to merge three generations of music greats on one cd. In fact he has managed to create a funky tune entitled "Feelin' It" featuring Chuck Brown (Bustin' Loose), Sinbad, Ray Parker, Jr. (Radio)and Faith Evans.
A true musician embraces many forms and types of music. They can gleen something from various genre. This is how original music is created. Look at the great Herbie Hancock. He was great in the '60s and he is still going strong in 2010. He couldn't do it if he was musically stagnated.
Remember, musicians are artist and every so often artist have to break loose, enjoy themselves and experiment. Just because they are jazz musicians do not mean that they don't enjoy other music.
To Brian Culbertson keep doing what you're doing. We love it!
If you enjoy his music for his instrumentals, you will be satisfied with the following tracks:
"It's Time," "Waiting For You," "Stay Wit It," "Forever," "That's Life" and "I Don't Know."
If you're annoyed with vocals that adulterate a good instrumental artist's album, this one is not for you.
This album is just like Its On Tonight because there are great instrumentals that really show Culbertson's talent as a contemporary jazz recording artist, but, in my opinion, the vocals ruin the overall elegance of his work.
However, Culbertson does showcase some amazing elements of funk into some of the instrumental tunes, which really saves the album.
I would still recommend this album to any Culbertson fan, but not as highly as I initially would after listening to it.
Anyways, XII is an album that will keep your head bobbin' and make you want to dance wheather it's a funky song like "Feelin' it" and "It's time", beautiful slow song like "Forever" or a beautiful sensual song like "I wanna love you". My actual favourite on this CD is the last track "I don't know".
I could go on for hours on how Brian is an extremely gifted musician who is able to provide wonderful songs that make you want to stop everything that you're doing and just enjoy all the riches of sound of his songs. I won't do that, I will only heartily recommend it and say you won't regret it :)

Consiglio anche gli altri CD.
C'est tout simplement une Musique qui me ressemble, me " porte" , me fait du bien .... un Artiste qui a le Don de me Mettre en " OSMOSE " ... à Tous les Amateurs de Smooth and Jazz Pop ... Laissez -vous tenter et appréciez !!! Peace !
Bringing Back The FunkからのJazz Funk路線を継承し更に正常進化させた今作は新たな発見が多かった作品でもあった。
