Virgin River has announced a special off-camera role for star Martin Henderson in the forthcoming series.

The actor, who plays Jack Sheridan in the hit Netflix series, will be directing an episode in the sixth season, which is currently filming on location in Vancouver.

The exciting news was shared via the show's Instagram account, with a picture of Henderson posing with a clapperboard. "Our very own Martin Henderson is having his directorial debut this season of Virgin River!," read the caption.

It appears that Henderson will direct the eighth episode in the upcoming season, with "EP 608" written on the clapperboard.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith previously confirmed that Virgin River season 6 will be made up of 10 episodes in total.

He additionally confirmed that fans should be prepared for another time jump in the sixth season, following on from a previous time jump in the 2023 Christmas specials.

Filming for season six officially began in February, with the Grey's Anatomy actor sharing his delight at being back on set in an Instagram post.

"Aaaaaannnnnnndddddd……we’re back!," read his caption, alongside a photo of him with co-star Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays his on-screen love interest Mel Monroe.

"Back at it in Vancouver commencing shooting for season 6 of #virginriver. That’s right folks, we are at it again! Feels so good to be back in Jack’s boots making more what we hope to be riveting, romantic and racy drama for y’all. Stay tuned for more updates on set life and BTS banter…"

Filming is expected to wrap up in mid-May. A release date for Virgin River season six is yet to be confirmed.

Virgin River series 1-5 are available to stream on Netflix.
