My four years at SFC’s Upper School were fantastic! While my friends from my public middle school were stuck zooming, my high schoolers school admin were busy simultaneously navigating the CDC’s guidelines, state’s laws, and school district’s rules to keep us on campus. Getting back into the groove from Covid was a smooth transition because of the extra money spent on making our campus compliant. Softball is my sport, and pitching is my position. We couldn’t field a team my sophomore year due to lack of interest, so I was encouraged to try Track & Field. I did pretty well against very experienced discus throwers and actually took 2nd place overall for shot put at CIF. I wish we had our own track on campus so we didn’t have to drive elsewhere for practice, but I’m indebted to the coaching staff for being able to spot talent and encourage my strengths. The majority of our students are white, but we do have a significant population of Asian-, Latino-, Hispanic-, and African-Americans too.
Santa Fe Christian is an amazing school filled with an outstanding staff, kind families, and academic students. The campus is beautiful, it sits five minutes from the beach with amazing views of the ocean from many classrooms. The facilities are clean and very modern. The teachers care and love the students and they want students to learn and grow. The faculty is kind and they are always there to listen. Student life is fun, there are so many ways to get involved and to have a wonderful experience. The families are involved and everyone has good things to say about the school.
The teachers are the best thing about this school and most are pretty great. Downside: admin not so great. Head of schools earns over $600K/year and continues to raise tuition significantly year over year while teachers salaries are flat. Meanwhile, comparable schools tuition like Cathedral have stayed pretty consistent over the past 5 years while SFC has gone up 5-10% per year and making it unaffordable for many of their existing families. The academics, sports and programs don't justify the cost as there is much to be desired. SFC doesn't have as many offerings as Cathedral or public schools in the area. SFC electives, AP classes, and sports across the board are much less than any other school in the area. We've been here for 8+ years now and since the new Head of Schools has joined, the culture is very much all about money and those with money and major donations get the most attention and preferred treatment.
