A group of friends embark on a camping trip for a ten-year high school reunion. Their celebration soon turns into a battle for survival when they realize that the locals, who are not what they seem, are hunting them down.

i assumed this was going to be something similar to the first wrong turn movie, but i was very wrong and i couldn't be more disappointed
Took me forever to remember this movie. Did not take me forever to realize that it still is not that good.
If you have seen a lot of Horror movies that take place off the beaten path you have probably learned that the empty spaces of every country are filled with inbred murderous hillbillies. It's a movie fact. The farther outside a city you go the more likely you are to be attacked and tortured by a family that lives in the deep woods. That idea stays strong in Backwoods. It may even go a bit further than you expected.
So, the movie follows a group that is on a corporate retreat in the deep woods of Jasper Park. Not the big Canadian National Jasper Park, but Jasper Park California. Here they run amuck of a very large group of woods-people…
Haylie Duff and that one guy from Final Destination 3 go on a corporate paintballing trip and end up tortured by rednecks because their boss was wearing a misleading hat.
No, really.
Yup.
It's as daft as it sounds, and since it was made for TV, there's no gore to liven things up when the locals attack. The stuntpeople did earn their pay cheques, though, jumping off cliffs and getting set on fire, but, uh, they were probably the only ones who were worth the money.
Backwoods treads no new ground. In fact, I was comparing it to one of the many Wrong Turn movies as I was watching it. There isn't too much of a story of the backwoods folks and that could have made this movie a 4-star movie. The genres here listed this as a tv movie. It might very well have been a tv movie but the gore, when it was on screen, was pretty excellent.
This is a fun movie. There are huge flaws and story gaps that might bother others.
The fact that this was in my recommended for you section on amazon prime is causing me to have some harsh reflections on my life

Hey, Hailey Duff and the guy from Final Destination 3 are in this. This is really really bad and almost at a comical level. Not quite Wrong Turn even though you can see the obvious relation of crazed rednecks killing the cocky city folk.
i know in my hearts of hearts that this just plays into the inbred cliché that's extremely hurtful and can be ableist but...... i really enjoyed this 😇 SORRY it perpetrates really bad sterotypes and its also really lazy to have the women be raped and then have them join the cult, im getting tired of cult horror in general anyways, it always sucks, but the interactions between the characters really sells this. its also bad that the main character raping the women is mentally disabled and i feel like i should mention that instead of talking about anymore good points so. thats what we're working with
