What to expect when visiting Da Nang
Da Nang is a bustling coastal city in central Vietnam. A known transport hub, it’s a popular gateway to the nearby city of Hoi An. But this fast-developing city is so much more than a stopover, it is now a destination on its own.
Travellers are making Da Nang a part of their itinerary for its laidback beaches, clear waters, and centuries-old pagodas. Some of Da Nang’s best attractions include the Marble Mountains, Ba Na Hills, the Son Tra Peninsula, and My Khe Beach.
3 ways to get from Hanoi to Da Nang
There are three ways to travel the distance of 765 km (475 miles) from Hanoi to Da Nang: by bus (13h - 18h 08m), train (16h-17h) and flight (2 hours 30 minutes). The journey takes 2h 30m - 18h 08m and the quickest way is by flight. The lowest priced tickets start from 448,000 VND ($17.60) for the bus.Hanoi to Da Nang by Bus
There are several bus companies offering daily sleeper bus trips from Hanoi to Da Nang. Among these companies are Queen Cafe Bus, Techbus VN JSC, Green Trips, TBus, The Long Travel, Camel Travel, Futa Bus, Van Luc Tung, Grouptour, Viet Tan and Sapa Discovery Travel.
With a sleeper bus, you’ll get a basic bunk and a blanket. Note that the bunk may not be long enough for passengers taller than 6ft.
Bus fares from Hanoi to Da Nang start at 448,000 VND ($17.60) and the journey takes around 13h - 18h 08m.
Departure and arrival station
Group Tour Company departs from its own headquarters in Hanoi, some 500m north of Hoan Kiem Lake. It parks at the Group Tour office in Da Nang city centre.
Camel Travel and The Long Travel depart from the same bus stop in Hanoi, some 3 km south of the Old Quarter. They drop off passengers at their terminal in Da Nang centre.
Bus schedules from Hanoi to Da Nang
We recommend travelling with one of the abovementioned companies when taking the bus from to Hanoi to Da Nang.
Futa Bus also operates on this route, but we don’t recommend it because it departs from Giap Bat Bus station, 5 km south of the Old Quarter. Also, its travel time takes up to 18 hours! If you still want to travel with Futa Bus, you can book a ticket online via BookAway.
Hanoi to Da Nang by Train
If you travel by night, the train can be a good way to complete the 16h-17h journey from Hanoi to Da Nang. Trains are a bit more expensive than the bus, but also safer and much more convenient.
You can get a soft seat for around 677,000 VND ($27). But for this long journey, we recommend booking a 4-sleeper berth for more comfort.
Departure and arrival station
Hanoi Railway Station is a 10-minute taxi ride from the Old Quarter.
Da Nang Railway Station is located within Da Nang city centre. You can get to your hotel via a few minutes walk or a short taxi ride.
Train schedules from Hanoi to Da Nang (Sleeper Berth)
Optional: Da Nang Railway Station to Hoi An by Bus or Taxi
If your hotel is located in Hoi An, then you’ll have to travel about 30 km from Da Nang Railway Station.
You can do this in 2 ways: by bus for 1 hour or by taxi for 45 minutes. Rates start from 20,000 VND ($0.80) and 385,000 VND ($15.10), respectively.

Hanoi to Da Nang by Flight
Although we are not huge fans of taking a flight because of its harmful impact on the environment, we have to admit it is the easiest way to travel from Hanoi to Da Nang.
Both cities have their own airports, which are easily accessible from their city centres. Travel time by flight takes only around 2 hours 30 minutes, while the journey by train or bus takes at least 15 hours!
TIP: If you decide to travel by plane, please consider including a carbon compensation fee to reduce your impact on the environment.
Step 1: City Centre to Hanoi Airport by Bus
Hanoi Airport (also called Noi Bai International Airport) is located some 30 km north of the Old Quarter.
The most convenient way to get to the airport is by taking Express Bus 86. This bus departs from Hanoi Railway Station and makes several stops near the Old Quarter before going on its way to the airport. A ticket costs 45,000 VND ($1.80) for the journey that takes 1 hour.

Step 2: Hanoi to Da Nang by Flight
There are plenty of flights available daily from Hanoi to Da Nang. These are operated by Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Vietnam Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines. The flight takes only about 1h20m.
The first flight departs as early as 05:50 while the last trip departs at 21:10.

Step 3: Da Nang Airport to City Centre
Da Nang Airport is located just 2 km from the city centre. If you’re heading to Da Nang’s centre, then you can simply take a taxi for around 80,000 VND ($3.10). Travel time takes only about 10 minutes.
Da Nang Airport to Hoi An
Are you going to Hoi An from Da Nang Airport? If yes, then you can take a shuttle bus for 155,000 VND ($6.10)or a taxi for around 320,000 VND ($12.60). Travel time is about 1 hour.
