From Route 101 you will access the Damnation Creek Trail. After about a half mile you will cross the Coastal Trail, and then continue down towards the coast. The trail leads to the point where Damnation Creek flows into the Pacific Ocean. The coastline here is exceptionally rugged and rocky. Sea stacks can be spotted up and down the the beach.

Trail is well maintained. Great views. Both bridges are open. Made it down to the beach and stopped to rest before our trek back up.

Incredibly well built trail. Had the entire beach to myself. Excellent way to experience the coastal redwoods!

A bucket list type hike that is not easy but so worth it. Chilly in the shade and warm at lower elevation and windy at the beach so dress in layers. I would recommend a walking stick.

While a short hike, this is not to be taken lightly - Probably the steepest and most challenging physically of all the hikes. I did this 2x and each time differently. The first time, I started at Crescent Beach overlook and hiked the Coastal Trail down to Damnation Creek Tr, then out to the beach. Full review and photos: https://www.goatbells.blog/?p=7050

Awesome!! Best hike so far today and we did Tall trees and Lady Bird Johnson. A little over a 2 mile hike down to the Pacific. Absolutely gorgeous when you get down there. It is strenuous because you are going back uphill to the trailhead however it is a very well maintained path. This is a must!!

Late afternoon hike today and it was amazing at the end (beach). The trail was clear all the way to the bottom. One of our favorite so far.

Portion of the trail was closed due to renovations because a bridge was out. But it was a beautiful trail regardless!

Gorgeous hike but closed at coast trail. We did this hike about 20 years ago and were so excited to try it again. Even without the lower portion open, the hike through the giant redwoods and ferns is breathtaking. You can hear highway 101 throughout the upper half of the hike.

On August 14, 2023 the trail was open except the final 1.4 miles to the beach. We were just looking for redwood serenity and for that it's disappointing. The trail stays close to US 101 for the first mile and the traffic noise echoes all through the valley. We turned south on the paved Coastal Trail and finally found a quiet spot about 1/2 mile south of the Damnation Creek Trail junction. Without the beach access I wouldn't recommend this trail.

Was there on August 14th and the last part down to the trail was closed off, with construction crews working at the very bottom by the bridge. This trail may be down for a while.

This is one of my favorite trails ever. Hit it in the morning with the fog and sun and it’s just wonder after wonder! Signs said closed, but NPS website said open on weekends. We continued with no problems. Bridges all complete.

Came to the trail for light rays from the sun during sunrise and was not disappointed! Like everyone says, majority of the trail is still closed, but still very worth the sunrise hike!

Trail is closed at the 1.4 mark. East turn to the right or left along the coastal trail can extend your walk! Beautiful

The barrier is still there blocking the last third of the trail but you can just turn right and follow the road that is coastal trail which turns into a lovely real trail after a short walk.

Beautiful. At first I thought we were on the wrong trail bc it was all downhill & I read that the trail was a steep 2 mile hike. It is : on the return trip. But it’s doable for in-shape people. The trees are unbelievable.

Beautiful redwoods trail. Only saw one other small group of people. Where the trail is currently closed off you can take a turn and continue down the coastal trail for a ways if you wish to go further.

Trail was beautiful and well marked but it was very muddy and became impassable the last half mile. We ended up having to turn back and weren’t able to make it to the beach.
