Dr. Geetanjali Singh

Some dancers are born, some are made, and some others are the rare breed who imbibe the art into the very fibre of their being.

Dr. Geetanjali Singh is one such soul - for her dance is life and life is dance. A performer par excellence, a Guru beyond comparison, Geetanjali’s journey with Kathak started in her mother’s womb - her Guru Dr Shashi Sankhlaji, herself a doyen of the Jaipur Gharana. An Alankar(Masters) in Kathak from the premier institute for dance and music - Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, she has also received training in Hindustani vocal and Indian folk dances.

Teaching stints at Jaipur’s prestigious Kathak Kendra and the renowned Geetanjali Music Society and at the Indian Cultural Center in Kuala Lumpur with innumerable performances across India and abroad are just some of the highlights of her career.

She has also performed for national television programmes, conducted workshops on dance and organised and judged several dance competitions. Since 2012, her Geetanjali Dance Classes in Mumbai has been host to more than 500 students, who both revere and adore her.

Geetanjali firmly believes that classical dance should be accessible to all, and not just the privileged few. She is a purist who lives by the Guru-Shishya tradition and exhorts her students to follow the same, but not in the typical sense - the hugely successful Annual Day programme - Srijan and the Guru Purnima function organised by Geetanjali Dance Classes have both the pure Kathak pieces and fusion mixes of Bollywood, Sufi, folk music and even popular English pop songs - a testimony to her tremendous dancing and teaching skills.
