New Dorp High School Reviews
Rating 3.96 out of 5 382 reviews
My son is finishing his 9th grade in New Dorp and so far he’s had a really great experience. The teachers are very nice and helpful. There is tutoring offered after school and during lunch for students who need extra help. The school offers many AP classes as well as college classes that students can take while in HS. There are many clubs and sports for students to choose from. New Dorp is a very large public high school however it is divided into academies so it feels manageable; students within a particular academy spend the whole day with other students from the same academy and don’t really mingle with students from other academies so it really feels like a school within a school. Also, the many fun events are usually organized by each academy. Being a public school, New Dorp has a mixed quality of students and unfortunately not enough involvement from some parents. However for kids who want to learn I think the school can offer a great experience!
New Dorp High School has a diverse environment with opportunities for academic and extracurricular growth. Positive aspects include supportive teachers and a variety of courses. However, challenges may arise due to large class sizes and limited resources, affecting individualized attention. Improvements could focus on enhancing resources for personalized learning and addressing any issues related to student support services. Overall, New Dorp High School offers a valuable educational experience with potential for further enhancements in support systems and resources.
I joined the rest of my peers rather late, as I was dealing with some severe health issues but upon returning towards the end of sophomore year, I felt alive. There are always bad people in every group but I was lucky enough to meet the best kinds of people to call my friends. Teachers were understanding of my situation and we diligently helping me along as I got accustomed. My junior year and senior was where it all came together my actual Highschool experience, I met new people a tried new things like tryout for volleyball, helping out with the culinary class and also becoming part of the school system as an intern. I got to meet the many teachers that work with hundreds with students daily on a whole new level which made me want to help and aid them in what they needed. My experience here made me feel like I’ve become of something bigger then myself.
