I personally had an enjoyable experience at DHS. Even with all of its not so good qualities, I was able to be quite involved in school activities which made up for some of the negatives aspects of attending this school. We are school that is somewhat infamous for all the wrong reasons, but it has definitely gotten better over time. I can see the effort that newer staff members are putting into making DHS the best place it can possibly be.
Dickinson is a widely independent high school. Teachers will not push you to learn and administration will not push you to listen. Counselors will not push you to plan for the future and security will scrutinize you whenever they can. Personally, I disliked DHS. However, Dickinson is a very diverse school for what its worth. There are people of all sorts and you can choose what type of people you want to be around pretty selectively. However, Dickinson's student atmosphere is mostly deprived of students who partake in substance abuse or illegal activity. Speaking of Dickinson's atmosphere, its location placement is horrible. It's split between Newark ave and the Heights but its too far from any notable locations in the Heights such as Central Ave and Washington Park so there isn't a 'hangout' spot at Dickinson besides the projects across the street. If you have a better option for a school, go there. Dickinson isn't horrible though, I guess.
The best part about my experience in DHS is my teachers, I have been so lucky with my teachers because they all end up a good teachers. The worst part about Dickinson is the people and students there, there is no respect at all at Dickinson and also they pick and choose based on your religion.
