Noticeably Better Than Firefox On Gen 1 FireTV, Whole Lot Better Than Nothing, Still Missing The YouTube App
Compared to Chrome or Firefox on a PC this would be pretty crummy, but on the Fire TV I think it's the best browser option. The only other being Firefox which is very good *for the TV Box platform of the Fire TV*. What puts Silk in first place for me is the smooth interaction and a little more settings customize than Firefox. I do wish I could set the home page. Both are speech-to-text enabled so I can (pretty successfully) enter URL's or searched by voice. On a product like FireTV I think this is absolutely essential. There are still lots of apps that are not.In user experience Silk seems to operate more smoothly than Firefox. Not by a lot but enough for me to notice on my 1st gen Fire TV. Maybe the newer and more powerful models will negate that difference. Maybe I just have new model envy.Silk does what it does well considering it's on a FireTV. With keyboard/touchpad input I'd expect a lot more control, but just look at the Fire TV voice remote. Not all that many options really. So being the best in a limited environment gets Silk 5 stars from me. It's a little better than Firefox and a whole lot better than nothing.Oh yes, I'd like the YouTube app back too. It was a very good option for browsing/viewing YouTube videos.

I had sent a memo to amazon to incorporate the Lakers game to their fire tv even at a fee. The sylver browser basically give you the lakers game free if you know where to find it on the net free. Having the internet work on the second and first generation fire tv is the greatest thing amazon ever done I think. like I said . almost everything is in the net theses days is just the matter of where to find them for free. so great tool. it worked fine when I first got it but then I am having a problem viewing the lakers game lately wondering if it due to the problem with apple I believe. It looks like the problem has been solve, I just read that amazon will be now selling apple product. if that is the case, I think amazon did the right thing to find a solution to the problem. YouTube is certainly a great product for their customers.
KEEPS GETTING SLOWER, NEWER VERSION IS RECOMMENED FOR FIRESTICK OR ANYOTHER LOW MEMORY REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE. Customer service is nothing more than a answering service that calls you back and leeds you nowear! SORRY MENT NOT RECOMMENDED!
Finally, Amazon adds their flagship browser to the Fire TV lineup. Overall, this is as solid as the version on the tablets but there are areas that they can improve on:
1. Integrate it with the fire tablets. Xbox does this with the Edge browser and smartscreen app by letting you use your tablet as a trackpad and virtual keyboard to enter search words and urls. The current use remote to move the cursor setup is slow and forget about entering text with any expediency. 2. Allow it to share bookmarks with the Silk browser on your Fire tablets, if you have one. Google Chrome allows you to do this across all of your devices that logs in to their service. You shouldn't have to enter your favorites all over again. 3. Integrate Alexa/voice control. Since text entry is tedious at best, allow the user to enter search words via voice.
On the positive, I have to applaud amazon on releasing their browser on their fire TV devices (looking at you, Roku and Google).
Honestly, when it has came down to Amazon's Fire TV, they have definitely needed to have some improvements, to compete against other companies like Roku & Apple. But nevertheless, they have tried to nicely, but they have fell at times, especially when it has came down to their Fire tablets. The Silk Browser has been the main browser that was used in the Amazon Fire tablets operating system. But honestly with the exclusivity, it has not been as comprehensive as is with Google Chrome & Microsoft's new Edge browser. Well, Amazon has finally decided to put the shift to the test, as now you can use the Silk Browser on your Fire TV device. Going through, and navigating from the device has been a issue. There really is not a way to stream videos from other websites like YouTube or CBS.com. I did have a few issues with that. Also, I couldn't actually navigate and access my e-mail from other websites. In a sense, I definitely found that to be a bust. Hopefully, When Amazon.com updates their Silk Browser, there will not be any issues that hinder it. Otherwise, you are better off sticking with it on the Fire tablets instead.
The only reason I got this was because of the Google-Amazon beef. I hate proprietary crap like that. This app helps me to avoid the fallout and watch Youtube videos on my FireTV. That's all I really use it for. I like that once you navigate there, it remembers when you return, so you don't have to do it every time you use it. Only downside is I can't screencast stuff from my phone, but I actually like the little up-down-left-right letter navigation thing for searches, so it's cool. Call me weird, but it's like a video game in and of itself. Anyway, I'll keep using it until they sort that mess out and get the YouTube app back up and running.
I recently got the Silk app in order to access YouTube on my Fire Stick and so far have extremely pleased. But the added benefit for me is that I can easily stream my Rifftrax.com collection on my TV finally. I’ve been a Rifftrax fan for years and up until two days ago I had to either watch on my computer/tablet or burn my videos on dvd. But now with Silk, I can enjoy my Rifftrax experience so much more. I found this app easy to use and really like that the little countdown circle is so visible and even if there are times when it might be a little slow, at least I can see it’s progress.
got that for my kitchen, quick and easy install, good quality, dimming work perfectly, nice and smooth light. will definitively buy more for my basement!
When Youtube app was taken down from Fire TV since then I'm using this browser for streaming YouTube content and the experience has been awesome. Apart from that my browsing experience on this browser too has been quite smooth.
