About
As the home of country music, Downtown Nashville is a place of significant musical history. Here, you can visit one of the city’s famous honky tonks and dance late into the night, or eat at its wide selection of restaurants and street food joints. There are a bunch of cool boutique hotels, so don't worry about those late-night journeys back from the bar.
Learn more about the area's history at museums like the Tennessee State Museum and the Country Music Hall of Fame, or join a bus or walking tour to see the city's main sights through the steps of famous stars.

- PJS22182Vienna, Virginia173 contributionsParty atmosphereDowntown Nashville is actually Lower Broadway, or the Honky Tonk Highway. It has a wild party atmosphere on the weekends with lots of out-of-town revelers, including bachelorette parties. The clubs on the strip offer live music and have no cover charge. But it can be hard to find a seat during the prime time hours. The bands are largely cover bands playing hit tunes. If you’re looking for future stars you are better off going to Printer’s Alley, I’m told. That’s just a couple blocks away.Visited May 2023Written May 27, 2023
- Susan HTacoma, Washington3,803 contributionsWhat a Place! We were in town for a week and came downtown 3 times and enjoyed our visit each time. This place was very busy both day and night with lots of music, food, and drinks. So many bars and so much to see. Great people watching too! We visited on a Friday night and they even close down the street to traffic in order to accommodate the crowd. Lots of security around as well. A must do at least once in Nashville!Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 28, 2023

Second time we took a Lyft. We were able to stay later and enjoy the area much more. Tons of rooftop bars. We chose the less crowded ones. They were just as good. So much to see.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2023
- Lucy M42 contributionsFriends foreverFabulous B and B in a trending neighborhood that has a courtyard for late night revelry, wonderful meals. We found music and divine bourbon at the Belle Mead distillery, bought art at Hatch prints, visited the famous bookstore and had a blast. Did not appreciate the walk by the river as it was overgrown and not managed well.Visited September 2022Traveled with friendsWritten July 7, 2023
- Rhonda G1 contributionWonderful staffClean, nice staff, it's out of the area I would call downtown, across the street from the stadium but they have good shuttle service. Otherwise you need to Uber back. 15 minute walk to the strip.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 28, 2023
- AmyNebraska22 contributionsGreat live musicIt is a nice experience to walk up and down Broadway street and listen to all the live bands at the bars and restaurants. No cover charges. Drinks are slightly pricey, but you are getting entertainment. Bands are all day which is great for those who want daytime or earlier evening experience. Bands all switch at 10 pm from early shift to late shift so keep in mind nothing is playing from10pm for about 45 minutes. Cheapest parking is at Library parking garage which maxes out at $20/day.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 30, 2023
- CarrieRice, Minnesota39 contributionsVegas with a TwangLOTS of fun! I duped this area Vegas with a twang. Bars and novelty shops galore. Bars actually take out a front window so you can see and hear the live band. The street was busy (October) but we expected that. Don't forget to walk on the side streets. These bars are less busy but still very fun. A safe area to walk. We noticed the street does not come alive until after 5pm. It got busier as the night went on. We were there from 4:30pm to 10:30pm. There are also resturants but we did not eat in this area. Expect to pay $25-$70 for parking. We were 3 blocks off and paid $30.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 17, 2023
- John CVancouver Island, Canada460 contributionsWild and amazing place - music - music - musicImportant facts - I am over 60 and I love live music. Our first night downtown Nashville - I nearly froze from all the sensory stimulation. Our second and third nights were much more enjoyable. Love the bars and great music - music everywhere. Too bad so much of the drinks and food is served in plastic. Make sure you do an evening walk across the walking bridge.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 7, 2023
- Travel31 contributions2nd time to Nashville but would never go on a weekend. This was our 2nd trip to Nville. Fun trip but noticed the same songs among most bands no matter which venue. The homeless with the signs are even more annoying and why the City does not crack down on this issue and allowing this problem to get worse in a the few years since we've been downtown is surprising. It was so crowded and we were there Mon to Thurs. I would never go on the weekends. No place for kids (at least Vegas has a lot more kid friendly places for kids, Nashville not) Watch for cars while at crossing walks on Broadway because some drivers not paying attention. Fun place to visit for some good music and lively entertainment, just don't go on weekends.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2024
- RandyRossRidgetown, Canada12,390 contributionsWorth A Visit! The third place that we visited on our first full day in Nashville was downtown. Some of it has changed since 1997 but much has not. This is the only place that we had to pay for parking ($25.00 US). That said, it was quite a busy place on a Monday afternoon. We wanted to eat lunch at Hatie B's but there was a long lineup (over an hour) so we chose the Blanco Cocina + Cantina restaurant instead. We ate at Hatie B's the next day at one of their other locations.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024

We came downtown for a concert and it helped to know that we were going to the Bridgestone and where we were going to park. Had I not known where parking was, it would have made the trip longer. Nashville has grown so much in the last 20 years, a visitor who had not experienced it would not recognize the skyline and would find streets and traffic patterns different than he remembered. Nashville's growth has probably been good for the local economy, but anyone who has lived here all their life will tell you that it no longer has it's small city charm and that traffic getting into and out of the city can be a nightmare, especially on clogged interstate highways. That being said, the downtown entertainment options are many, and that's why folks brave the traffic and pay $20 and up for parking for a concert, a sporting event, or other event. Nashville today is far from the Nashville of my youth. In some ways that is a positive and in other ways it is a negative. I will also say that as a person who retired from a downtown job that I held for over 41 years, one of the best things things about not working downtown is not having to make that daily commute to and from downtown.

Watch out for the scam parking in Nashville. Premier Parking puts up free parking signs and poor signage and then writes "tickets" Traffic in the city is horrible. The city has no clue how to regulate traffic or parking.

Visited during the first week of July during the day, which was probably not the typical experience. Most clubs on lower Broadway had just been closed by the mayor due to the covid and there were not many tourists. Like most larger cities, there were a number of homeless mostly sprawled on the ground, especially in the park that hosts the country music walk of fame. We didn't exactly feel unsafe, but they definitely made us feel uncomfortable enough not to linger outside in that area. In addition, we saw recent damage from the riots everywhere (boarded up businesses, graffiti, and a statue removed to vandalism) We had to skip the Capitol building and the surrounding areas since we didn't want to get into a confrontation with demonstrators staging a sit-in, which was disappointing. It was fun to see some of the historic locations and snap a picture, but it certainly wasn't the "vibe" we were looking for. In addition, parking was ridiculously expensive in the surface parking lots. 10-15 dollars AN HOUR? I would recommend parking in the public library parking garage, which was a more reasonable 3 dollars an hour.

Such a great city, music, BBQ, fun too bad it is getting overrun with homeless. I paid 40.00 to park and I didn’t even finish putting my parking ticket in my car and there was a homeless man right up my back asking for money. Went to spend some time listening to music and have some fun however there are people begging every where. One corner was not even passable because on the sidewalk there was a homeless man sleeping on a ten by ten tarp and three others were sitting across from him, there was a men carrying a sign that said Smile if you masturbate REALLY? They are everywhere you walk. Couldn’t even stand and listen to music without someone begging or getting really in your personal space. Now the most disturbing thing that happened was a homeless man went up to the Elvis statue outside of a store and started licking the mouth of the statue, this same statue that people were taking pictures with... I don’t know but the city should be doing something to protect people who visit the city and help the homeless. Clean up Broadway!

City was busy and busteling. Music was loud, food was fresh and juicy and drinks were cold. It was 65 degrees in December, people were out and ready to party and explore the city. Amazing trip.

As a long-time resident of Tennessee, and a former frequent visitor to Nashville, I was very disappointed in downtown Nashville during my last visit.
There were simply too many people, too much congestion almost all the time. Drunks, screaming and yelling, everything designed to be noisy, and impossibly long lines for everything. Gone are the days one might pop in to see a country or jazz legend for free, improvising at a local club. Gone are the days one might go downtown to relax -- that ship has sailed.
Much of what should have been saved has been torn down. So much for progress.

Downtown Nashville is vibrant and fun. Unfortunately, during our stay, they were only in phase 2 or reopening. This meant limited people into the bars/restaurants, no standing nor dancing once inside, and many places were simply closed. Thankfully some places still had live music, so we got a glimpse of what it may have been like when fully up and runnung.

OMG...so much fun! Honky Tonky-ing from bar to bar. Loads of laughs and great/excellent music. Favorite was Doc Holidays with a close runner up in Tootsie's and Kid Rock's. Kid Rock is very loud however and we found we much preferred the smaller venues as in Doc Holidays.

We recently relocated from Southern California to Knoxville Tennessee , a city which we absolutely love!
My husband had a flight out of the Nashville airport on a business trip so we thought we would tagalong and sightsee in Nashville. The city was a major disappointment. It is basically an old dried up Southern city. (Reminds me of Shreveport or New Orleans) Pretty old and dirty. There are homeless people everywhere. We even saw people passed out from drugs on the streets (flashback to California). I saw a man using a literal city trash can for a lazy boy as he yelled at cars driving by.
Everything was under construction. And they’re really just wasn’t anything to do, with the exception of a few museums. Pay to park, graffiti, homeless encampments.
Music row was basically a small strip dedicated to country music singer chain restaurants, bars and gift shops. There was trash on the streets and a lot of young hipsters walking around. Not what you would really expect from Nashville, but hey whatever.
We stayed at the Opryland resort. The resort itself is really beautiful, but the area that it’s located in seems a little sketchy. If you’re in the resort, you are fine. But we went out of the resort to get gas and were met with unfriendly attitudes and rude stares and felt very unwanted in the area.
Almost all of the restaurants are closed down due to COVID-19. The only place to get breakfast was the Cracker Barrel and that was a 45 minute wait. A lot of the restaurants say”temporarily closed” online. Dave and Busters is closed although it said open online.
I did not go to any clubs, live music or bars so maybe that’s what the city is all about? I do have two young kids and a family so maybe this wasn’t a family friendly city. But even if I was young and single, I wouldn’t really feel safe walking around the city for the nightlife.
I hope Nashville can turn things around, because it’s starting to look like Los Angeles.

Smaller than I thought it would be. The city of music’s downtown / broadway is about 4 blocks long. It is packed with bars and restaurants down the length of it on both sides do the street.
Mix of young party people, older couples and just odd mix of people who come to or end up in Nashville.

Live music is everywhere now. On the streets, bars, Broadway is full of bars and music. We also went for Grand Opre show. The Oprey resort is nicely decorated for Christmas and their garden is beautiful, we had early dinner at Rovello in the garden before show. They already started decorating. They are getting ready for Ice show.

Broadway Street is the place to be for music. Every bar has someone playing. Tootsie's has alot of history in Nashville, Ole Red was a lot of fun. Normal covid restrictions - face masks and distancing. Business hours are different too, when we were there most places were open on the weekend and some days during the week.

Hey guys! My friend and I are planning on going to Nashville in May of 2021. We are going to a concert at the Nissan stadium. Is the Towneplace Suites by Marriott Nashville Downtown a good place to stay? Does anyone have any information on the ATV rentals? Is it worth it to go? I need ideas! This is our first time going to Nashville and we are in our teens.
