If you have time and enjoy seeing the elegance of the past, the Belair Mansion is worth a visit. It's hidden in a residential neighborhood, so make sure to use maps.

The docent tour was excellent. The Mansion is well kept and clean with 250 years of history. Samuel Ogle, Governor of Maryland, and his wife were first residents in 1745 then William Woodward became owner, 20th century horseman producing 2 Triple Crown winners.

I visited for a wedding, it is a really nice place, and it is kept very well. The feel of the place is warming.

The Belair Mansion is located just a few minutes off Rt. 50 and less than one hour from Washington D.C. It is worth a day trip plan combined with other things such as Annapolis and Chesapeake Bay and beaches. It is located in Bowie, Maryland and was built as plantation house of Maryland Provincial Governor Samuel Ogle in 1745 and later was a home of another governor. Currently it is serve as a museum and it is listed on the National Register of Historic place. The place is very well kepted and to display each room with various function. The outdoor bowling alley is interesting (currently owns by private owner). Like I said, great for a combined day trip from Washingnton D.C. Visitors can do a self-guided tour or join the official tours. Close at 4 and you need at least 30 minutes to enjoy the ground and the mansion.

The Bel Air Mansion tells the story of two families over 250 years. Included is also the story of two triple crown winners and a huge chunk of horse racing history. If you are trying to figure out what to do in Bowie, this is the place to go.
