“Bridge Over Troubled Dreams” is the sixth studio album from Delta Goodrem. Delta’s intention with the album was to reset her career and head back to basics, ditching pop synths for live instruments and creating a 70s inspired pop rock album unlike anything she’d made before.
The album was preceded by five singles: “Keep Climbing”, “Paralyzed”, “Solid Gold”, “Billionaire” and “All of My Friends”. The album title was confirmed in an interview with Grazia in September 2020, and is lifted from a lyric in the album’s lead single.
The album was released on May 14, 2021, exactly one year after the release of the album’s lead single.
While writing the album, I heard someone say that sometimes people write songs that they need to hear themselves. I realised maybe I do need to write these songs to hear them out loud.
I used an entirely new approach for creating the album. I approached it like a biography. I wrote the majority of the songs in my home in Los Angeles at my white piano, after thinking and talking through a life experience.
[Matthew Copley and Marla Altschuler] created a safe space for me to tell these stories with freedom and transparency.
