Minecraft needs game pass to play but I already own the game. - Microsoft Community

Minecraft needs game pass to play but I already own the game.

I have had minecraft (xbox bedrock editon) since the original xb1 version was discontinued, as of two days ago it tells me that I need game pass to play it again or buy the game despite me owning the new version.

I've talked to support this morning and they are telling me I do not have a copy if Xbox bedrock editon despite me telling them I have it (I had the game way before it was on gamepass). They were able to find my copies of doungens, story mode and the orginal XB1 editon. Also that I should buy gamepass to play again or purchase it again.

When I go to the store page it tells me I can install/buy it again even if it's on my system already. How can this issue be fixed asap. I've already reset/restart my xbox twice and it still happens and if I re download it it tells me I need to update and after it finishes I still can't play.

Attached below are some photos of the annoying issue.)

Hello GreekGod28Zeus,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

We understand that you wanted to get back to play Minecraft and is unable to because the game shows you own it however it also shows you need to repurchase or re-subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. Let us check on this together so you will get back to gaming.

According to your description, you have mentioned that the Xbox One Version of Minecraft has been discontinued. May we know if you own a disk for Minecraft Original Xbox One Version?

May we know if you have tried to contact Minecraft regarding your concern with the game license? They may be able to help you with the installation concern you have issues with.

Please try to perform this: Kindly go to this link: Minecraft for Xbox | Minecraft

From that link, please check if you have the base game of Minecraft and if you can download it. Please make sure to sign in with your account.

We look forward to your response.  Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

Sincerely,

Kathy A.

hi Kathy,

I did not have physical disc for the xbox one edition of minecraft it was a code in a bundle when I bought system back in 2016 that I no longer have the code anymore. Also I've already reached out to minecraft and talked to xbox support on calls, they mentioned it might be a outage. As for the website link it is giving me the option to buy it but under my games it says I have two minecraft bedrock edition and doungons . ImageImage

I'm having the exact same issue. The account I was just playing the game on last week now says that I need to purchase the game. It's like they got rid of the version we had installed and no longer support it. I made the mistake of uninstalling it and was going to reinstall but MS store says I don't own it so I can't re-install. Only proof I have that I ever owned it would be the game data synced to the cloud. It's like MS is forcing you to rebuy the starter pack version or use the game pass version.

Hello GreekGod28Zeus,

Thank you for contacting the Xbox Support forums. I understand that you own an older license of Minecraft and are now unable to access your copy of the game.

In accordance to the official Mojang article: Xbox One Update Reminder | Minecraft, the version of Minecraft you have has an expired license due to the game being upgraded to a new version back in 2019. Unfortunately, the timeframe of upgrading the title for free is no longer available. The option in this scenario is to purchase the new version of the game since the old version is no longer available for users.

I understand that this may not be the ideal outcome, but I hope this helps answer the question you had regarding your copy of Minecraft.

For more details regarding the upgrade, please view the article listed above.

Thank you,

-Tali

Hi Tali.

How can I get a new license for my game or update, I can't believe I have to jump through all these hoops. I should be given one for my struggle if possible. Please let me know what you can do.

Hello GreekGod28Zeus,

Unfortunately, the free period of upgrading the license has expired as of November 2019. To obtain a new license, a new version of the game will have to be purchased since the original Xbox One version of Minecraft is no longer supported by Mojang.

Hello GreekGod28Zeus,

We are unable to generate codes and will be unable to process your request. You can purchase a new license of Minecraft at: Buy Minecraft | Xbox
