Hakata Station, the largest station on Kyushu Island, serves as a crucial transportation hub connecting the shinkansen from Honshu with the rest of Kyushu and is conveniently located near Fukuoka Airport. Was able to fit my luggage in a coin lockers for 600 Yen and go for a run. Pretty easy station to navigate. Plenty of restaurants to include a nice-looking ramen place on JR track 4.
The station itself is relatively well signed, Shink platforms are the higher numbers, but there are plenty of boards showing the departure times.
Outside the gates, however, is a maze for the first time visitor. If you're just getting out of the station, then this isn't a problem, but if you have a short time to kill between trains, staying in the ticketed area might be advisable.

This is a great station and a major transportation hub in Kyushu. There is a large shopping district on the lower levels and it is located directly next to the bus depot. In the fall/winter there is some great Christmas light displays and the whole area feels very festive.

A very convenient and modern station also an excellent social hub for people to dine and shop here . Lots of restaurants and shops and good department stores. Very beautiful Christmas lighting decorations during the season as well as festivals decorations during different festivals.
It's a beautiful, clean station. If you're a shopper, plenty to do. However, if you're a not a shopper and accompany a shopper, you'll be hard pressed to find somewhere to sit and enjoy your shopping beer.
If you're city hiking, the area around the station is beautiful. Plenty of nice architecture, parks and beer and snack stops.
Very near Fukouka International Airport. Always take a cab over and travel to places from here as Hakata is a regional transport hub. There are many shopping places around the station where you can spend your time on while waiting for your train ride
Visited this Station during New Year Holiday’s season, it was very crowded and barely had no coin locker left. But what can I say is, this is a beautiful station. You can admire the roof structure, they also had a big Christmas tree, and some lights illumination infront of the station.

Huge station and hub for the Shinkansen and many local trains travelling around Kyushu. Make sure you check out the food court with many fantastic ekiben and local foods to taste and take on your journey. Friendly and helpful team and you can use your rail pass at the counter or electronically.
Unlike other transportation hubs in Japan, Hakata Station is easier to navigate and has lesser crowd. I love staying near the station as I was able catch the Shinkansen and limited express trains to other cities on time.
2B (big&busy) train station in Fukuoka. It may be a bit difficult to orientate yourself for the first time. It is a shopping centre with quite a few catering options as well. It is not the most efficient, so, plan a time buffer for your travelling or buying a ticket. The station is clean and seems to be safe.
Bright station with lots of signs in Japanese and English so easy to find your way around. Lots of shops for something to eat. Also connected to large shopping mall for even more options.
I thought it was busy when we arrived at lunchtime on Wednesday but Thursday about 20:00 and Friday morning it was heaving. Long queues for ticket machines despite there being a lot of them.
All the Fukuoka souvenir shops seem to sell food and nothing else.
Huge place to discover! Each time I go here I always get lost. Just the underground level already gives you enough options for food...but try going up to the 9th and 10th floor and there's even more food variations!

All ticket vender machine of this station are busy. It is difficult to change your e-ticket to paper ticket within 15 minutes especially in weekends. Many customers lose the reservation by paper ticket. Many customers having e-ticket cannot believe why the train operator JR Kyushu require the paper ticket to go through the train gate. I hope JR achieve the paperless system for e-ticket customers.
This is a large station with access to many shops and restaurants inside the station and nearby shopping malls. It's typically quite busy with local trains as well as Shinkansen connection to Tokyo and nearby large cities.
The station feels modern and airy and it's 1 stop away from Canal City mall where the Nakasu area is close by and a couple more stops to Tenjin area for Daimaru shops.
Airport
Fukuoka Airport (FUK) is conveniently located near the city center and offers easy access via underground, bus, or car. It features both domestic and international terminals, with direct rail service to Fukuoka. Despite being one of Japan's smaller airports, it is the fourth busiest in the country, serving passengers from domestic destinations and other parts of Asia. The airport boasts observation decks, free WiFi, nursing rooms, and a clean environment.
One of the best airports in Japan. So many souvenir shops and restaurants! The observation deck is located on the top floor. Lots of young people here even during the pandemic time.

This airport’s international terminal had 4-5 flights of 100+ people each on it booked to leave on December 23rd at the same time. However, the international terminal has ONE METAL DETECTOR! ONE X-RAY MACHINE. ONE PERSON WORKING FOREIGN IMMIGRATIONS. Did I mention that the terminal has been under construction since at least October with little to no progress? Every staff member had to pull people from the line to make their flight. Every person that had checked in and got immediately in the security line was late for their flight - no exceptions. I checked in for my flight immediately as it opened, spent an hour in line, and watched as the security line wrapped around the building completely opposite of the security line. I could not have gotten there sooner and many budget airlines do not allow for check-in until about 1.5 hours before the plane departs - there was no way to get there early here for about half of the flights here that were considered budget airlines. The staff was amazing, but this airport needs to schedule flights better or open up additional lines to get people through. This is absolutely unacceptable for an international terminal and was probably the most nerve-wracking flying experience I’ve had and I’ve flown from the states to Japan on zero confirmed tickets before.
When I was leaving out of Fukuoka for my flight to Tokyo then on to the US. Their staff is very helpful making sure I got my bags checked in the correct location. They have staff roaming and checking on passengers flight times to make sure they get on their flights. The ANA airport staff escorted through to make sure we got to the correct gate so we wouldn't miss our connecting international flights.
Less crowded from other airports I've been to. Clean toilets. International flights have time set to drop your luggage so be aware if you come in early, you won't be able to check in your luggage right away, I had to wait for 2hrs for the counter to open. Inspection is quick enough and staff were polite. Stores and restaurants by the gate. Loud announcements.
Wow I just had a domestic flight from Fukuoka to Osaka. It was super fast. Everything including security check lasted for 1-2 minutes.. 😂😂

(1) Airport wifi was off, both when we arrived and departed the week after. We relied instead on our roaming mobile signal; recommended to save screenshots of QR codes; (2) crowded snake queue at the arrival pre-immigration area with up to 12 rows thick; (3) crowded at the post-immigration departures hall; (4) business class lounge, restaurants, and stores like 7-11 and Starbucks close early (up to 15:00 only) except for the duty-free store. They close after the last flight for the day by a major airline has departed, leaving the passengers for budget carriers with limited options like the duty-free store until the last flight at night. Recommended to dine heavy meal first before heading to the airport because only the vending machines for drinks remain open.
Nice little airport with great places to shop and eat. However, if you’re an aviation geek, then you’d love the observation deck on a sunny day. It’s accessible even to visitors since it’s before the security check.
very easy to navigate. maps everywhere. possibly the best fried sweet potato, too. the Fukuoka gift shops have cute Sanrio designs and sunscreen if you're seated by a window.
The airport is clean! They clean their panel glass by cloth manually. It has its own MRT station and the regular train going to airport is fast as well. Fukuoka Japan is a nice place to visit :) Japan is a great country and so does its all cities are awesome and so does Fukuoka. Strongly recommend to visit this Airport if your are going to Japan and have money and time
We arrived the airport at 11:30am yesterday and standing waited at the customs line for 2 hours. There were packed with people, a few fans with no air conditioning. There were no priority lines for the elders and my mom is 78 years of age and went through a very bad experience. This is not a good first impression of this city for the traveller. Imagine some of them flying long hours from Europe or Americas and having to go through this. Wifi was not working so better screen shot the QR code in advance. The Chinese speaking guide help and Korean speaking guide help were all giving bad attitudes to people not heping much at all. I hope the airport will improve the service.

Reading through the past reviews, I was expecting a vast desert wasteland with absolutely nothing, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Whatever happened with the long check-in lines a few months ago was thankfully not the situation today. Both check-in and security were very quick, and there was plenty of staff for the amount of people traveling today.
I was flying out midday from the international terminal, so pretty much all shops were open except for one in a distant wing of the airport. Not much to do landside, but airside, there are a couple of eateries, a 7-Eleven, a Starbucks, and a variety of places to pick up souvenirs after the security checkpoint. There's even hiyoko manju and hakata torimon if you didn't get them elsewhere. Same as Royce potato chips and other nice things. Of course, I guess it all depends on when you're flying in/out, and whatever the closing times may be.
Went to the 7-Eleven and used a Mastercard to pay with no problem. There's a sign that says you can't combine cash & credit in one payment, but the card reader was quicker than out in the city. Granted, there's less variety, but the price for my bottle of green tea was the same as it is at other 7-Elevens (JPY 138).
It's a great mid-sized airport if you keep your expectations low. It doesn't have a sprawling layout and unnecessary designer goods, but at least it's got some food and some shopping! I've been to extremely small airports with nothing at all but chairs, so........
I took the first flight in early morning .Check in counters open about 2.30hrs before departure time.Security check and customs begin at 6.55 am. Convenience store and souvenir shops open at 7.00am.
It's one of the best domestic airports in Japan!! After refurbishment, everything got so much better. The observation deck is next generation style - 2 floors style. The access is the best in Japan, direct access to the subway station, which is fantastically designed.
When I arrived, I was impressed because my luggage was already neatly arranged 🙌🏻 never doubt the Japanese!
I think most hotels around here provides shuttle bus and I took that too. But it just dropped me at the domestic area. I need to change shuttle bus to the international area.
In the international terminal, they already use machine so we don’t need to stamp our passport anymore.
In the waiting room, there was a staff (maybe from the airport or goverment, I don’t know), she asked me some questionnaire and she gave me a Japanese erases as a gift. Thankyou!
This is a review of the INTERNATIONAL terminal. I have not used the domestic terminal to comment. It's a very small airport with barely any shops or restaurants. If you want to use the subway you still need to ride a free shuttle bus that will take you to the domestic terminal. Although there are also busses from the international terminal that will take you to various areas in Fukuoka. And since the airport is very close to the city riding a taxi is also a decent alternative. The airport is functional but very small and very bare. I have been to several of Japan's major airports including Narita, Haneda, Kansai, Chubu, New Chitose and Fukuoka is the worse among them.
My flight was 8.15 am and the entrance to the gate(security check and customs) opened 7.00 which is too late in my opinion. And once I got in there is no restaurant that much. There were a few shops for drugs, snacks and drinks. I think there should be more shop for shopping and eating.
A clean and spacious airport located just a 15-minute drive from the city of Fukuoka. The airport is linked to the subway station and it is very convenient to travel to the city by the subway.
The airport can get very crowded after 9 a.m. and it is recommended to check in online beforehand to avoid long queues at the check-in counter. The luggage scanning area is crowded and requires a long queue. Do make sure ample of time is allocated before boarding.
The airport not that huge, but was okay. I have morning flight around 10:00 am. So everything was so busy, long line for counter check in, custom and immigration. Kinda rushing because the counter check in open on 08:00 am and the line sooooo long but everything is good. I coming to the gate area 09:35 and have a lil shopping. I going to the gate on 09:45 am. Thanks to duty free lady who’s help me getting faster to pay my thing meanwhile I ask if I can cancel and put the basket with all stuff to her. But I end up paid everything.

Hakata Daruma is a renowned ramen shop that has been serving its signature dish since 1963. The restaurant's collaboration with the owner has resulted in a packaged version of their famous Hakata ramen, allowing customers to enjoy the thick pork-based soup and springy, extra-thin noodles at home. The traditional method of yobidashi is used to continually enhance the flavor complexity of their tonkotsu broth, which is cooked in an iron pot.

We were in Fukuoka and obviously had to try the local flavour of ramen - Hakata style. While reviewing a few stalls online, we found Hakata Daruma closer to where we stayed and it had decent reviews too. While we were queueing up, we could smell the aroma of the broth, yummy!
Since we were quite late after lunch time, we were seated in less than 10 minutes. We bought tickets at the machine and you could inform the staff of the texture of the noodles, I just went with normal firmness. Ramen was served in about 5 minutes and you could smell the garlic, the overall flavour and smell was quite strong. I liked the fact that the bowl was full to the brim and the plate it was served in was stainless steel, that gave me a homely feel :)
Chashu pieces were huge but was a bit hard texture for my liking, but I was told this was the way it's prepared here. Ramen in Japan obviously has a lot of salt in it, so if you're averse, inform the staff beforehand to go easy with the salt. I didn't, and I was drinking water every 15 minutes for the rest of the day! The noodles were thin and firm, I really liked the texture, it paired very well with the broth. As mentioned earlier, the broth was a bit thick and extremely flavourful - I could feel the taste for the next few hours. Being a ramen fanatic, I obviously didn't leave a drop in the bowl - as evident from the picture of the empty bowl :)
So overall, perhaps not the best ramen I've had, but a decent introduction to Hakata style ramen.
Good quality ramen. The smell of the pork broth is very unique, the taste is very flavorful. Some people may think that the smell can be too intense, it depends on some people. Overall everything is great, for me the intensity of the pork broth was a little too strong, if they dumb it down a notch with it would be perfect.
Recommended by an elderly coworker, a truly unique ramen experience! I've never tasted ramen like this in Japan nor America. It has a funky smell, but DEEP flavor. The soup is also a bit thick. I recommend giving it a try and asking for an extra serving of noodles.

I went on a rainy weekday evening and it was almost empty. The meat, soup, and egg were all delicious, and the flavor is strong and very porky. Delicious Fukuoka style tonkotsu ramen!

Canal City Hakata is not just your average shopping mall - it's a vibrant entertainment hub that offers an array of experiences. This sprawling complex boasts 250 shops, two hotels, offices, movie theaters, arcades, and a performance stage surrounding a 180-meter canal. Visitors can enjoy fountain shows every half hour, adding to the lively atmosphere. From popular Western brands like Zara and H&M to Japanese favorites like Sanrio, there's something for every shopper.
This is a pretty big mall with romantic christmas lights in February. We happen to walk by when the water fountain show started, which lasted for about 3 minutes -- that was a bonus. I imagine this is a perfect spot if it was rainy outside, or if you just like shopping.

Just a regular mall with shops and restaurants. They have several steak and ramen options though which I liked. Their fountain shows are also nice.

This shopping center has a lot to offer, from luxury goods to general things. It is just huge. There you may find different types of restaurants, as well. This shopping mall has even room to organise musical shows from well-known musicians. I was impressed!
This is definitely a nice place if you live to shop. If you are not interested in shopping, this place is not for you. There are some restaurants, but I didn't think it was enough for the size of the mall. The fountain show was fun to watch.

It’s an outdoors shopping mall, but the actual shopping is indoors. It was sprinkling and raining yesterday, but we didn’t get wet while we were shopping.
I think the night time mood is a lot more beautiful than the day time, but it’s great for window shopping or hanging out.
There’s a Disney store, Studio Ghibli store, animae stores, and even camping goods. Perfect place to take kids and also relax or window shop with your spouse and get some treats.
There’s interactive fountain shows too~
Fancy place with lots of Christmas events.
There’re Santa disco show four times a day for free in the lobby.

Really nice outdoor mall! We loved seeing the dancing fountains and shopping! We also ate dinner here at a sushi restaurant with a conveyor belt and had so much fun. It’s worth the trip if you’re looking for something fun to see with kids and also shop! They had great stores.
Very very nice place, there is a lot of anime stuff and as the name may suggest it has water, a lot, in the base floor (1F) there is a kid attraction with water. Every 30 minutes there is a special water show and at 21:00 is the Disney water show, it was very cool.

An amazing shopping and eating area. We were fortunate enough to be staying across from Canal City so we spent most of our days and nights there, enjoying the beautiful surroundings. In particular, the Gundam Scramble in Fukuoka is well worth staying around to watch at night (with multiple showings) and otherwise, the fountain and light show set to different music, is also lovely to see.
What a great shopping mall so many shops we could not see them all in one full day. Recommend to visit the website and see what performances will be happening there so you can plan your trip.
If you ever visit Fukuoka, you should visit this mall. It has a lot of floors where food, clothes and other stuff can be bought. There is also a light/watershow every 30 minutes which is stunning to see during the evening. I really liked the food and it was an amazing experience
Such a fun mall! After getting some Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, and after some souvenir shopping, we caught a special One Piece fountain show near the end of the night that was spectacular. There’s also a bunch of cool shops inside, including Shonen Jump and a Kirby cafe
Huge indoor/outdoor mall with restaurants and shops of nearly anything you could want. Also has a nice water feature and water show about every 30-45 mins.
My personal highlight was the Ghibli store on Level B1, was full of great stuff and I wanted to buy it all.
For people with children, there is a splash play area for hot days, letting your kid get soaked, a lot of fun! Go there when it’s hot!
Located near Kushida Shrine station, just 1 train station away from Hakata Station. This is a massive mall with lots of local and international brands such as H&M, Calvin Klein and Adidas. If you are looking for a quieter place to shop for your souvenirs and snacks, plus have a meal, this may be a place you can consider! I also caught a water light show when I was there. Pretty magnificent :)
As for sight-seeing, there is not much to be blown away by. However, if it is a rainy day and you need to spend your day away with a movie, food and some walking to cover your day, it’s a place to go!
Okay, it's a mall...but what makes it amazing are the water shows and projections, because you don't expect it and the special Gundam events they just had took it to a whole new level with audience interactions via website.

Canal city it’s a big mall has a good food court and famous restaurant! It’s 15 minute walk From hakata station. They have a water show every 30 minute. That’s awesome.
I really liked the burger. It's definitely a japanese burger, the meat is different to how you know it from an American burger, but that doesn't make it less delicious. The bacon, egg, the special mayo - the whole thing is juicy. The burgers are also always made fresh after you order, so there's nothing soggy or wilted. The special buns are delicious too. Price is fair for what you're getting. Oh, and the burgers are big! Highly recommended!

This restaurant was introduced by my friend. 4 mins walk from Tenjin station, very conveniences. The signature dish was Squid Sashimi and everythings are tasty. Basically the squid already dead but their feet still moving when heading up on the table. The feet should not be eat at first round as when you finish the squid (body) they will take the rest part for tempura or roast it. (No extra charges)

We kinda stumbled upon this restaurant and the food was delectable. We ordered the miso-based motsu nabe with noodles and mochi, as well as rice and other dishes amongst three people. The staff were all friendly even though we only spoke English and the restaurant overall had a good atmosphere. I wish there was a 4.5 star option - it just missed the 5 stars because the menu seemed a bit limited. It was my first motsu nabe so I can’t really compare it to others, but it just didn’t quite have that unique taste.

The Hankyu Hakata Building is a great place to glimpse over Fukuoka thanks to the lookout on the green terrace rooftop. There also is a nice sitting area, a little train for children and a temple. You can bring your own food and drinks. We loved this place, especially at sunset!

The hot food stores are ok but this Hankyu is not as good as those in Osaka, Tokyo and 兵庫。But if you stay near the station this can certainly is convenient. It is just I prefer to explore more therefore I often go to the supermarkets like Sunny, Mammy where the selection are much wider and so much cheaper, perfect for a cheapstake like me.

Smooth and tasty and went well with hotpot. All the side dishes were well prepared too. Overall high standard food. The hospitality was up to standard with a dedicated helper to serve our group. Reservation must be made and they served group of 10+. A great room and place for gathering and celebration. Communication was clear during booking process and patient and helpful staff.

Tenjin 1st store is on one massive level across 2 buildings, but seems smaller than Tenjin 2nd store, Has no toy section, but very good for tech and computers. Has an upper level accessible from the computer section with a Softbank that sells second hand tech and anime stuff. Preferred Tenjin second store as it seemed to have a larger range of goods. Best to think of this store as their tech specialty store in Fukuoka, so to speak :)

As a foreigner be prepared to not be able to buy some of the limited edition kits. You have to have a membership that at the time is exclusive to Japan.
