EXCLUSIVE: Sam Raimi and Josh Donen will fold their Stars Road Entertainment banner when their Sony Pictures deal expires at the end of August. They’ve been together for seven years, since Donen left CAA and went from being Raimi’s agent to being his partner. There’s no acrimony, the partnership simply ran its course. They will continue to work together on projects they’ve developed. Raimi wants to focus on the pictures he’s directing, while Donen has not only been producing with Raimi but also others including David Fincher. Donen, Raimi and Rob Tapert (along with creator/show-runner Steven S. DeKnight) have the Starz series Spartacus going into its third season and also received a series order from the pay cable network for Noir. Separately, Star Road has had an overall deal at Sony Pictures Television since 2009. With Fincher, Donen is working on the Netflix series House Of Cards, and the film 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea at Disney.
Raimi is putting the finishing touches on Oz: The Great And Powerful at Disney, and he also has his Ghost House banner with Tapert and Nathan Kahane, where he produces genre pictures like the remake of Day Of The Triffids remake that has Luther creator Neil Cross scripting.
