What are the 3 types of CDL licenses?
To drive a particular type of vehicle, you should have the right license to do so. There are three types of license classes: CDL Class A, CDL Class B and CDL Class C. Here they are in further detail:CDL Class A
A CDL Class A license allows you to operate any combination of vehicles with a gross combination weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs with a towed vehicle weighing more than 9,999 lbs. With a Class A license, you can drive several vehicles, including tanker vehicles and truck and trailer combinations.CDL Class B
A CDL Class B license allows you to drive any single vehicle with a GVWR of more than 26,000 lbs that isn't hitched to a trailer. It also allows you to tow a vehicle that weighs 10,000 lbs or less. Examples of vehicles you can drive with this license include tow trucks, garbage trucks, large passenger buses, dump trucks and delivery trucks.CDL Class C
A Class C license allows you to operate vehicles capable of transporting more than 15 passengers, including the driver. It also allows you to drive vehicles transporting hazardous materials. To obtain a CDL, you'll have to meet certain licensing, testing and age requirements. 1. Determine what type of license you need
Certain licenses allow you to operate specific types of vehicles. Before applying for your CDL, you should determine what type of vehicle you'll be driving, so you know whether you'll need a Class A CDL, Class B CDL or Class C CDL. For example, if you're planning to be a truck driver, you'll need a Class A or Class B CDL.
