Mister Rogers creates a sculpture with some wooden sticks and a lump of clay. He shows the difference between large and small sticks. Mister Rogers comments that it’s not easy to do something you had trouble doing before. Audrey comes to his house and cuts a folded newspaper to make a pompom. She phones someone, but won’t say who. The surprise is outside, where a drill team performs for them. Audrey brings over a squad of cheerleaders who perform three cheers. Mister Rogers explains that cheerleaders help and encourage people to do things better.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Cornflake S. Pecially is having difficulty trying to make a present for Prince Tuesday. Miss Paulificate tries to do the task for Corney. When he takes offense, Miss Paulificate says that if Corney doesn’t want her help she’ll leave. Robert Troll suggests that maybe Corney needs some encouragement. They cheer Corney on as he toils with his machine. Dr. Bill appears on the scene and remarks that Corney has had trouble mastering that machine in the past. This time Corney is able to make it work.
Mister Rogers rolls a toy across the rug and the toy rolls back to him. He explains why the toy comes back. Two boys, Jamie and Alan, stop by with yo-yos. They demonstrate the yo-yos. Mister Rogers says that Jamie is his older son. After the boys leave, Mister Rogers explains that people don’t need strings to come back. Mister Rogers talks about letting go. Mr. and Mrs. McFeely come over with live baby goats from the zoo.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Robert Troll wants to play ball. X can’t. Robert Troll finds some neighbors who can play. Robert Troll forgot to bring a ball. Lady Elaine provides some rags so that they can make a rag ball. Robert Troll throws the ball but won’t let go of the end, because he is afraid no one will throw it back. The others convince him that they will give the ball back.
Mister Rogers puts a tea kettle on to boil. While waiting for it to whistle, he says he can’t whistle and talks about waiting. When Mister Rogers’ tea kettle whistles, he pours the boiling water in the sink to show steam. Then he goes to the McFeelys’ to see a surprise. Mister Rogers waits on the porch until the surprise is ready. He talks about making faces, snapping fingers, and making noises to pass time while waiting. Mr. McFeely comes out with a steam machine and demonstrates how it works.
Mister Rogers brings an empty, smelly milk carton to make a paddle wheel boat and then demonstrates how it works.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Robert Troll and Cornflake S. Pecially stain a chair. Corney tells Robert to dump the excess stain in the creek. The stain pollutes the water. King Friday and Queen Sara notice a bad smell at the castle. King Friday sends Donkey Hodie and Robert Troll to find the source of the smell. Robert and Corney explain to the king that the pollution started at the factory. The king tells Corney not to manufacture anymore until he finds a clean way to do it. Mister Rogers uses part of a milk carton to make a garage and a second paddle wheel boat. He then uses water that he has been floating the boats on to water plants. While doing this, Mister Rogers talks about how Corney felt when the king scolded him for making a mess.
Mister Rogers brings things that people throw away. He makes a container and plays with sponges. Mister Rogers goes to the McFeelys’ and then to Brockett’s Bakery where he sees items made from recycled materials.In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Robert Troll and Corney decide to ask Dr. Bill how to clean up the stain, but he is unable to help. They go to Elsie Jean for help and she tells them that only magic can remove wood stains. Lady Elaine Fairchilde uses her Boomerang-Toomerang-Soomerang to put the stain back in the bucket. She tells Corney and Robert Troll that she won’t clean up for them all the time. Corney decides to use dirt to make new stain, because it can be washed away.
