Want To Self-Publish Your First Book? “Amazon KDP” Is The Answer For Indie Writers!
It’s the most direct path to publishing e-books on Amazon.
In my “Online Writing School” I now have a handful of writers who also want to self-publish their first book.
That’s so exciting.
Based on my chats with them and what I could found about Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), this could be the way to go if you’re planning to laucnh your first book.
So here’s what I found, since I’m in the middle of creating a YouTube video for my channel.
It’s very detailed but I hope it helps you figure out whether Amazon KDP could be the place for self-publishing your book.

What is Amazon KDP?
Using Amazon’s KDP self-publishing tool, you may publish hardcover, paperback, and Kindle books.
Via Amazon’s thirteen online markets, you may upload your work, create the cover, determine the price, and distribute your ebooks all over the world.
How much can authors make on Amazon KDP?
Authors receive a 35% or 70% royalty rate per ebook sold, depending on pricing, region and participation in the KDP Select program.
In their words:
Delivery Costs are equal to the number of megabytes we determine your Digital Book file contains, multiplied by the Delivery Cost rate…We will round file sizes up to the nearest kilobyte. The minimum Delivery Cost for a Digital Book will be US$0.01 for sales in US Dollars…
Kindle Unlimited customers can access enrolled ebooks throughout the 90-day exclusivity period of KDP Select.
- Royalties are paid to authors based on how many pages Kindle Unlimited members read.
- Monthly changes in subscription revenue and the total number of pages read determine the price per page read.As a rule, I heard it is less than half a cent per page. It’s hard to quantify how much royalties you’ll receive from KDP Select, as it depends on performance.
What else do I need to know?
Remember this.
Until you’ve completed your 90-day commitment and unsubscribed, you are not permitted to publish your ebook elsewhere after you submit it.
It becomes a little trickier than that since there are two aspects that are frequently disregarded, which you might not be aware of.
- Books that are not a part of the KDP Select program in Brazil, Mexico, India, Japan, or any other country are subject to a 35% royalty, regardless of price.
- You will receive 35% royalties on books that are priced under $2.99 and over $9.99, plus there are no shipping fees.
- If you take out the delivery fee, an ebook that costs $9.99 makes $6.99 for each transaction.
- Without KDP Select, you earn $3.49 per sale in four regions, excluding delivery costs.
