We hiked back from Fitz Roy and visited the area on our trek back. Due to time constraints we were only able to spend 10 minutes. It was cloudy and sitting down didn't seem appealing.

It was an easy hike down hill to El Chalten. Many hikers on the trail as we passed the lake.

Another hiker in our group only hiked up to this lake and enjoyed the clear view of Fitz Roy. We were delighted he was able to appreciate Laguna Capri since he was not able to do the Fitz Roy trail.

What a fabulous walk!

Easily slides into my top 10 of mountain walks.

Walk down the high street towards the mountains, through the car park and then turn left and start climbing. It’s quite steep to start but then levels out. The views up the valley are fabulous throughout the walk and there are lots of places to stop and admire the view. After an easy couple of hours you reach the lake and wow - the views of Mt Fitz Roy are stupendous. There is a little beach to picnic on and soak up the view.

Getting back is an easy 90 mins downhill.

It’s often windy so sunnies or clear glasses are a must. There is some shade on the walk too.

You can pick up picnic things along the high street for a picnic as there are lots of bakeries.
Take what water you need for the journey as, until the lake, there is nothing.

Fabulous day!

The lake was not hard to get to and was not crowded at all. If you got here by following the trek on the left at Punto de Encuntro, then follow the trek passing the lake and do the loop back up to the Fitz Roy view point (see the map attached in the photo) and then to town if you don't want to hike all the way to Laguna de Los Tres. The view of Fitz Roy along the trek just pass the lake was even more spectacular.

If you’re not up for walking too far then this is a nice trail and maybe only a few miles.
We did this as part of Laguna de los tres which was just an incredible day. Very long and hard but one of the most amazing walks we’ve done in the world.

Not so far from El Chalten (4 km walking from the beginning of the path that leads to the Fitz Roy).
Relaxing and definitely worthy!

This is around a 7 km hike round trip. The first half going up is the most steep and strenuous. The paths are generally quite well kept. There is very little loose rock but there are lots of tree roots to navigate around. Hiking poles would have come in quite handy but you can do it without if you must. We wore our Nike’s for the trek as our hiking boots are back home and we did fine in basic athletic shoes. Take plenty of water and snacks. Dress in layers. It was hot when we began but upon arriving at Laguna Capri the wind across the water was quite cool. There was a toilet just before you get to the lagoon. We had great clear skies for an excellent view of Cerro Fitz Roy once we reached the lagoon. We are slow hikers who stop to take lots of photos so it took us over 3.5 hours to do the hike. We saw a fox and a flock of Austral parakeets along the trail.

We made a one day trip from el Calafate to El Chaltén by bus ( Chaltén travel- pick up from hotels around 7:15 am, main bus departures from main bus station at 8am to El Chaltén, takes 2,5 -3hrs to get there, cost 1200 pesos round trip per person - 60euros., back bus departures at 6pm from El Chaltén)
You r guided by National Park Employee about rules in the park and available self treks.
When you have one day there Laguna Capri is excellent-approx 2 hours one way from bus stop, not difficult path but after entering path in the forest you ll he Perón ce route going up. But really very nice trekking, you reach amazing views on Fitz Roy mountain and then you get to the lake. We were very happy we made it :)

If you decide to go to El Chalten, you have to make up your mind to walk. That's the greatest thing about El Chalten, there´s a lot to do, a lot to see. And everything is for free!! But you gotta hike. The head of the trail begins at the north end of town, at the end of San Martín Ave. You will see the entrance to the protected area. During the first hour, the trail is a steep slope. After an hour and a half you will find a sign that shows a bifurcation to Laguna Capri (left) or to the Fitz Roy (right). From the lagoon you will have a unique view of Fitz Roy and its surrounding peaks. If you have time (and stamina enough) you can follow to Poincenot (I didn't, hope to make it next time)

It is an easy trek, the trail is well marked and, once you reached Laguna Capri, you have great views of the Fitz Roy peak. One of the reasons to come to El Chalten.

We were in El Chalten for only 2 nights and weren't keen on a very long hike, so we opted for a trek to Laguna Capri via Mirador Fitz Roy. The hike each way takes less than 2 hours even at a leisurely pace and has a few viewing points.

The lake is very serene and lying on the small pebbly beach with views of Fitz Roy is one of those moments in life when time stops, you don't fear anything and can only hear your heartbeat. But, our party was pooped by a family that came along and made loads of noise!! There is a camping site nearby which has a portable bathroom, but that might be a struggle to use.

We walked around towards Mirador Fitz Roy which wasn't anything superb and then walked right back down to town. Plan to spend a total of 4-5 hours on this trip.
