On the popular Starz TV series Outlander, which returns to screens for a super-sized 7th season this month, Caitriona Balfe plays Claire Fraser, the headstrong wife of Jamie Fraser. But off-screen, she reportedly wed her boyfriend music producer Antony "Tony" McGill in 2019. Here's what we know about their relationship:

They've been together for many years.

The couple is very private about their relationship, and it's unclear exactly how they met. But as People points out, there is footage of Balfe and McGill sitting together at a bar on Instagram from 2015.

McGill popped the question in the weeks leading up to the 2018 Golden Globes.

Balfe confirmed the news that she was getting married to People on the red carpet. “It happened over the break. I’m very happy,” she said.

Their wedding was reportedly very intimate.

According to People, the happy couple tied the knot at St. Mary’s Church in Bruton in an intimate religious ceremony in mid-August of 2019.

"It was a close-knit family affair officiated by Rev. Louis Beasley-Suffolk, who performed a Roman Catholic service,” the office of the priest told the publication. People also confirmed that there was a McGill wedding on the church calendar.

But what about Balfe's on-screen husband Sam Heughan?

Their chemistry is undeniable, but Balfe and Heughan are not a couple in real life. (Clearly, she just married another man!)

In a 2018 interview with Parade, Balfe addressed the fans who wanted the Outlander stars to be together off-screen as well.

"There’s a small vocal group that really wanted it, which is just a testament to the characters that we portray, that the love story is so inspiring and so aspirational that people just really wanted to believe in it," she said.

"And that’s a nice thing. But I think things are pretty clear now that I’m engaged to someone else. Everyone gets it now."

Even though they aren't together in real life, Heughan and Balfe are close friends, and it would appear that he was there for her special day.

He posted a photo of himself in a very dapper gray suit with the somewhat-vague caption, "Remarkable weekend. ☂️💞🍾🎊."

Shortly after her wedding, Balfe returned to work on season five of Outlander.

Just a few days after her reported nuptials, the actress posed with one of her four-legged co-stars for a photo on Twitter.

Caitriona and Tony have one child together.

In August 2021, Balfe announced the arrival of her son.

I’ve been off socials for a while as I was taking some time to enjoy cooking up this little human …. We are so grateful for this little soul ….that he chose us as his parents," Balfe wrote on Instagram.

She continued: "I’m in awe of him already and can’t help stare and wonder at all the possibilities of who he will become, where he will go and what he’ll do on the big adventure of his life."
