Not calling it Re:lease Order

I'm disappointed.

u/Radiant_eagle573 avatar

And flair isn't sati:re

u/Atario avatar

That's watching it in the order the studio's leases are set to expire

You mean expi:re?

Basically, you are fated to get it wrong as a first timer.

u/FetchFrosh avatar

Pretty much. I didn't even include the super secret hidden watch order where you just watch Re:Stage Dream Days and then dip because lol imagine watching anything else.

u/badspler avatar

Can't agree more. Its super important to get the series order right though. It becomes impossible to extract any enjoyment out of the series if you get it wrong.

I am a release order viewer and have just been devastated as more in the colon series has come out as my enjoyment has been retroactively ruined.

Edited

i didnt even know they were connected but im not an oldschool fan

edit: ffs i hate all of yall

It seemed troll af, but I’m guessing from your reaction that confirms it lmao

Yeah I personally love watching anime, but I’m not very wise with all the backstory and so on, I mostly get recommendations from my brother and Reddit from time to time. So I, for a few minutes really thought this was kinda real. I read this and was like wtfffff Then I looked at the date

Haha I got that reference.... Goodness me is type moon a daunting thing to get into. I stopped at FSN, FZ and UBW. Everything just became too much

u/KK-Hunter avatar

It's easy if you just play the original Visual Novel. Fate/Stay Night > Fate/Hollow Ataraxia > Fate/Zero is all you need and the main story is done. Anything after that you can basically do in any order (other than Carnival Phantasm, since that's a crossover with Tsukihime).

I'm just glad you didn't mention how Re:Zero is connected to Fate/Zero through the Zero spinoff franchise.

u/FetchFrosh avatar

What a mess that one is.

u/JackDockz avatar

Re:Zero fucked up the entire Fate watch order.

And adding Gundam to the mix, we get the quintuple timeline theory of parallel universes

Does that mean I have to watch Quintessential Quintuplets too?

u/ImAScientist_ADoctor avatar

Depend on which order you want to watch it in, but of course at some point you should try each order

u/Durinthal avatar

That's just a what-if scenario for each Gundam universe where the Char clones marry each quintuplet.

more reply More replies

Gundam 00 is the one that really ties it together

Do I watch Gundam 00 or Aldnoah.Zero first?

Plus, it also makes naming the combined franchise a mess, because whenever someone says Re:Zero it's impossible to know if they're talking about the series, or the Re: franchise + Zero franchise.

How do the Kara no Kyoukai movies tie in to the watch order by the way?

Right after jojo part 3 I suppose

But before Powerpuff Girls Z

Is Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho a Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu prequel? Similar title, and it's about witches.

u/mybeepoyaw avatar

I did like Familiar of Zero, which is a retelling of Re:Zero with a pink haired version of Emilia.

u/pWasHere avatar

Also Grimoire of Zero which does a really interesting dive into Puck’s backstory.

Code Geass is also really important for the origin of Zero.

u/mrfatso111 avatar

Agreed without code geass, you never know why is Zero such a big deal in all the other series moving forward.

Then you also need to start playing Megaman X to understand the struggle of Zero too and what it took for him to be where he is today too

u/mastesargent avatar

Don’t forget about The Wind Rises, which is all about Zero’s creator.

Trouble is, you can't understand the whole multiverse concept without first reading the [Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria] novel series.

More replies

I've never been sure whether to include Steins;Gate 0 in the Zero franchise. Or if the Code Geass OVA Recap Film "Zero Requiem" means that Code Geass R2 as a whole is part of the franchise, since it's the same story. And don't even get me started on Zoids Wild Zero.

u/5213 avatar

Steins;Gate obviously belongs to the "Semi Colon Series", which is its own separate universe though it's understandably confuses a lot of newcomers to anime, especially considering that S;G is not only the most popular and widely known by a significant margin, but even has its own spinoff/alternate timeline sort of sequel series?

More replies

this is why collabs are just cash grabs anyways.

u/Android19samus avatar

well, most people don't consider it worth it to go into that spin-off series in its entirety since Aldnoah.Zero is such a terrible ending. You can, and should, just pick up any entry in the series and treat it as its own thing. Yes, the overarching throughline is obvious but it tends to only weaken the themes of the individual entries.

u/VirtuteTheCat354 avatar

That one gets even more complex when you factor in all the tie-in video games. It's a shame, I've heard Yakuza Zero is really good but I dunno if I have the time to get in to a giant multimedia franchise right now

u/Frankengeek avatar

Not forget the mess that is Megaman Zero having a bunch of Spin-off of its own, with Megamn X been also a tie-in to X1999 to add to the confusion

What does re: mean anyways? Are they replying to something? What anime are they replying to and do I need to watch those too?

u/Ordinal43NotFound avatar

Maybe it's the Evangelion reasoning: "It just sounded cool idk"

u/cluesagi avatar

Ngl I literally think this is it

Upvoting and elongating the thread because I have watched two of those and Idk how those are connected

After some research I believe the re: series started chronologically as a response to the series Zero no Tsukaima, which is why Re: zero is also an isekai. Other anime were made in response to re: zero which leads to the whole re: series being fleshed out more. I must catch up on this series, the dialogue spoken through the themes seems enticing.

So, what you're saying is that it wasn't actually satirical at all? Gotta add to the watchlist rn

Edit: I am literally blind to sarcasm and the chances of you successfully toying with me are high. Not like I won't watch the series but just for you to know

Dude there's a Gundam show in the list.

u/Varkolyn_Boss avatar

I just noticed the flair. We've been tricked, we've been backstabbed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled

Well I’m officially offended. I’m so confused because I love Re:Zero and I’m just thinking, “what the fuck is going on here. This doesn’t make any sense. What is happening. What am I missing out on?”

Listen guys, between my autism and ADHD, FOMO hits me hard so I was just about ready to say fuck sleep I’ve got a gotcha game and like at least 6 episodes of anime to watch. I can go to work tomorrow on 3 hours of sleep.

Fuck me.

Tokyo ghoul had a Canon explanation for the Re in the manga, can't remember it tho

Repeat or redo, usually. Could be a link to the story or it could just signify a sequel, reboot or remake.

u/BunnyOppai avatar

As someone who hasn’t dipped into Re: yet, is it possible that it’s related to emails and forwarding messages in any way?

u/MemeTroubadour avatar

Communication in general is a recurring theme, yes. It's one of the few common points most shows in here have.

u/darkjungle avatar

Or in the case of Tokyo Ghoul, the sound fans make when watching it.

More replies

Are you saying that "redo of a healer" is part of the universe?

Fuck, now I have to rewatch everything and fit redo somewhere

u/bobdave19 avatar

Nah man it’s actually just a parody of the series. It’s an common misconception. Notice how the Re is not followed by a colon

u/HammeredWharf avatar

In case of Re:Creators, they're replying to their creators.

Actually if I recall it’s supposed to stand for Regarding: Creators

It's a common misconception but "Re" doesn't actually mean "reply". It means about or concerning. It comes from a Latin word that means thing.

It comes from a Latin word that means thing.

I thought it just meant "regarding". Like "regarding that thing you just said, [response]".

To be honest, it would be a pretty interesting experiment: watch all the series as if they were part of the same overarching story, and see what happens.

You could create entire new lore and character interactions while trying to make sense of it XD

So this is a joke right and they are all not connected? Cause I indeed got kind fucked when I saw this lmao

Smh, everyone talking about the Zero spinoffs and no one is paying attention to the Princess spinoff franchise.

Princess Jellyfish is a great expansion on a few side characters, and Princess Princess has an emotional payoff that rivals Re:Creators.

u/Batokusanagi avatar

Don't forget to watch the first 5 minutes of Princess Kaguya before watching Princess Mononoke.

u/Tsubasa_sama avatar

I watched the first 5 minutes of Kaguya-sama Love is War before watching Princess Kaguya did I do it right?
