Summary

Slap of God, also known as Morty I'm Bored I'm Gonna Kill You, is a scene from the 2017 film Mom and Dad in which the character Brent Ryan (played by Nicolas Cage) slams the character Damon Hall (Robert T. Cunningham) onto the ground. In late 2022, YouTuber Rigamarole used the scene as inspiration for a Rick and Morty parody animation in which Rick Sanchez slaps Morty Smith's head onto the ground while the song "Cello Suite" plays. The animation led to reanimations and variants going into early 2023.

Origin

On September 9th, 2017, the comedy horror film Mom and Dad premiered in American theaters.^[1] In one scene, Nicolas Cage's character Brent Ryan slams the character Damon Hall into the ground by slapping his head. On August 18th, 2020, YouTuber^[2] burpy uploaded a two-second clip of the scene, calling it, "Nicolas Cage and the slap of God," and earning roughly 1.4 million views and 49,000 likes in two years (shown below). The scene was dubbed "Slap of God" in reference to Nicolas Cage being humorously referred to online as "One True God."^[3]

On October 13th, 2022, YouTuber^[4] Rigamarole uploaded a one-minute-long video called "Ric and Mort (Rick and Morty Parody)" in which, at the 0:48-minute mark, Rick says, "Morty, I'm bored. I'm gonna kill you." Then, the song "Bach Cello Suite No. 1, G Major, Prelude"^[5] plays as Rick raises his hand and slaps Morty's head onto the ground, recreating the scene from Mom and Dad through rotoscoping. Over the course of five months, the video received roughly 2.8 million views and 187,000 likes (shown below).

On February 24th, 2023, YouTuber^[6] Billy's Aviation uploaded the first discovered variant of Rigamarole's animation, object-labeling images about the airline Ryanair. Over the course of one month, the video gained roughly 62,500 views and 1,200 likes (shown below, left). On February 27th, YouTuber^[7] idontgoout uploaded a version titled "144p morty" despite its interlacing, gaining roughly 476,900 views and 14,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On March 2nd, 2023, YouTuber^[8] idontgoout uploaded another version of Rigamarole's animation in which they replaced the song with Carmen's "Ouverture," earning roughly 933,600 views and 93,000 likes in 19 days (shown below, left). Soon after, full-fledged reanimations of the "Slap of God" and Rigamarole's animation surfaced on YouTube. The first-known iteration of this nature was uploaded on March 12th, 2023, by YouTuber^[9] Bucket Slayer, who used characters from Team Fortress 2. The video titled "[SFM] Slap of the God (I'm bored)" gained roughly 210,500 views and 14,000 likes in nine days (shown below, right).

Also on March 12th, 2023, YouTuber^[10] GravyMeatball also uploaded a TF2 version of the scene, titled "SCOUT I'M BORED, I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" gaining roughly 88,000 views in 5,900 likes in nine days (shown below). Through March 2023, multiple reanimations of the scene surfaced, ranging from Pizza Tower remakes to Roblox remakes, among other subcultures.
