Forget about Madonna. She has never done anything as good as this album! Cyndi Lauper is pure genius! It's so sad that most of people remember only her "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" hit single from the 80s. Cyndi has much more to offer than just few hit singles she released in that decade. Cyndi's voice is one of the most impressive instruments I've ever heard, and if you don't believe me just listen to this wonderful album. No one can sing like her. Her voice is so rich, strong and original. It sounds like...well I guess you can't compare to anything in this world.
"Hat Full Of Stars" was released in 1993 and sadly went unnoticed. Why? I guess, I'll never find the answer to this question. Maybe the public wasn't really ready for a new and grown Cyndi Lauper. They simply wanted another "She's So Unusual" album and what they got was the album that was way ahead of its time. I won't tell you which song is the best, because every track has its place on this album as well as in my heart.
So, forget about Ms. Ciccione and her disco throw away albums! Cyndi Lauper is a true QUEEN of POP!

Cyndi Lauper has always been one of my favorite personalities in music: a scrappily-voiced, professional-wrestling lesbian (and apparently she's a country singer now). But the more and more music I listen to, the more she is held back by one fact: She only ever had three good albums.
Here in the 90's, she radically tried to change her sound, and this is basically Lauper doing Sheryl Crow. I'm not going to say that couldn't work, but it doesn't quite fit here. She's trying to be a more serious singer, but she's also singing about the apartheid in 1993 (it was repealed in '91).
Grade: C

Great! Cyndi takes charge and uses the money her record company throws at her to make unique, innovative arrangements to her lyrically fantastic songs.
June 9, 2016:
After sinking to the depths of mediocrity with A Night to Remember, Cyndi comes up with a strong departure album. With Hat Full of Stars, she kisses goodbye to the mainstream-friendly pop sound she displayed on her previous two albums and embraces a unique sound that takes contemporary trends and combines them with several different musical influences. The end result is one of Lauper's most artistic and poetic albums ever.

Boring
Please Cyndi, I understand you wanted a more serious record, but that's not the way to do... Too boring and filler songs. There is a song about christmas... ehm no... I hate this kind of songs.Published
Hat Full of Stars
Featuring a host of memorable songs with interesting, fresh arrangements, Hat Full Of Stars is surprisingly consistent throughout, given how uneven some of her previous albums were.
"That's What I Think", "Product Of Misery" (which sounds like it could have influenced Sia), "Who Let In The Rain", "A Part Hate", and the beautiful title track, which serves as a perfect album closer.
Certainly one of her most interesting and polished albums production-wise, and certainly one of her best.

yeah cyndi
this is probably her best work i feel
here she is a musician not a singer with a whiney voice at times
she really shows her talent on this cd

In 1993 Cyndi Lauper returned to the music scene with her fourth studio effort "Hat Full of Stars". Rolling Stone in their review of the album gave it four out of five stars and called it Cyndi's finest. Albeit in US "Hat Full of Stars" tanked, not even reaching Billboard TOP 100 in Europe the album sold quite well and spawned few successful singles. Looking back, I think the album didn't repeat phenomenal success of her previous releases because her record company didn't even care for Cyndi at that time. She wasn't their biggest star anymore and they didn't want to spend money on her. It's a real shame, because after all this time, "Hat Full of Stars" stands out as one of the better 90's albums. Lyrics are more personal and confesional than on Cyndi's previous albums and she takes her voice to the limit. "Who Let In The Rain", "Sally's Pigeons" and "Hat Full of Stars" are Cyndi's most beautiful and heartfelt ballads. "Like I Used To", "Broken Glass" and "That's What I Think" take her to funk/dance territory. Other memorable songs are: "Product of Misery" and "Lies", but the truth is that every single song is worth hearing.

With "she's so unusual" Cyndi Lauper made a terrific pop album. The follow up "True Colors" was a terrible mistake in trying to get more serius. On this album she's following the same path in trying to be a more "serious" artist, with the result that parts of this album is dull. But there are some very nice songs here, the three first tracks, "Sally's Pigeons" and "Hat Full of stars". The rest isn't bad, just boring, but her voice is unique and that means a lot.
