my experience at Downey high school was incredible. Transferring to the school has taught me everything I needed to know for my future and has prepared me for anything that’ll come in my way. Downey high school has some incredible teachers that I will never forget and we’re amazing to me. The best part at the school was being a cheerleader because it gave me a real high school experience taught me many lessons and introduced me to many other friends that I have today. I would like to see change in the way my school prepared us for college. I was lucky enough to have the advantage of using college consulting provided at my school and I’d like to see my school change the way they promote it because it was a really useful tool to help me get into top schools.
The best part of Downey High School is having the best teachers, they have made me a much better person than the first time I entered the school. They helped set me up for college and without their help, I would never have even thought about college, and for that, I am very grateful. The worst parts of Downey High School is that some of my peers would be rude to me, but other than that, it was a great school.
I enjoyed my time at Downey High School, although some of the students and people can be too much to handle, I felt safe and welcomed in this community.
I love Downey High School’s preparations for students who strive to go to college. They genuinely seem interested in having any and every student be able to attend and graduate from a college. They do this by introducing the idea of taking Ap classes, having meetings about college attendance, and by having actual alumni and counselors explain the intricacies of colleges. Despite this, the school advocating for student’s attendance in college, should also advocate for more accesible extracurriculars. As many know, extracurriculars are super important for college apps, but from my experience, applying for an extracurricular is just as hard.
Downey High School provides excellent academics and plenty of opportunities for students to learn. The extracurriculars are available for everyone and community service hours are always encouraged. However, I would like the school to do better in keeping students involved and updated with events and schedules.
My experience in Downey High School was overall good but my only complaint would be that the counselors would never really put you into classes that could gauge your attention or classes you picked. The fact that some teachers would pick favorites in class and grade you on the opinion about you and not on the work you turned in.
Downey High school is a great school filled with a lot of opportunities for students. I have been involved in AVID and softball throughout my 4 years of high school. Even though my involvement was outstanding I was still able to make strong connections with my peers. I don't think I have had a super bad experience while attending Downey High school. If counting missing assignment deadlines then that would be the worst experience. Something that I would like to see changed is recognizing all sports. As a softball player I would say that this sport has been the least recognized for the past 3 years. This final year has changed a bit because most of the varsity softball players are in ASB so we get a bit more recognition.
Downey Hit is an overall good school that can improve in some areas. The inconsistent is teachers is concerning the students and parents. But give good resource most of the time for the students to prepare for college
Downey high has been an overall wonderful and quite stressful experience, but they did everything they could to prepare me for college. I thank them for that.
Downey high school is doing an amazing job for the students and the staff, I like how the teachers are easy to talk to and are always supportive, I don’t see anything that they should change because they are already doing a good job.
The best part of my experience at Downey High School is how many clubs and sports The school offers. I'm also happy they have classes that prepare you for college such as AP classes and Avid. The school offers many choices of food as well while some food is alright. I have enjoyed the majority of my teachers and how they try to connect with students. Some of the worst parts of my experience at school is sometimes the food, events at school, how they have separate lunches. I would like to see Downey have one lunch or have students sign up for a lunch they want and to allow students to order takeout again.
I love the overall environment of the school as it is welcoming and encourages students to learn and prepare for their future. The teachers are very helpful and push students to try their best, resulting in an overall betterment of students for their future which I appreciate. The emphasis on clubs and school activities is superb as there are events like "club rush" to promote different clubs and encourage students to join, resulting in more involved students. However, the school has a major problem with students vaping in the bathroom. It is bad for the students vaping as they start an addiction at a young age that could negatively affect their health for the rest of their lives, and it is also bad for all the other students who just want to use the restroom. I have heard several students complain about the vaping as they cannot go to the restroom in peace, most avoiding restrooms where it is especially prevalent or just not using school restrooms at all.
I appreciate Downey High School for its vibrant and inclusive community. The diverse student body creates a dynamic atmosphere, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging. The dedicated teachers and staff contribute to a supportive learning environment, encouraging academic excellence and personal growth. The school's commitment to extracurricular activities, whether it's sports, arts, or clubs, allows students to explore their interests and develop valuable skills outside the classroom. Downey High School's rich tradition and pride create a memorable and positive high school experience for me.
Downey high school is an amazing school. I have moved here you sophomore year and I didn’t know anyone but this school helped a lot with that department. They have many amazing clubs and so much activities that keeps you interacting
with the school. There has been some fights but that’s always quickly resolved by our campus safety and teachers are always there for you when needed which even makes classes safe.

I started highschool here during the pandemic and with the pandemic ive found that the culure and school is where i would want to be. I played football for four years here at downey and found that i love everything about it. I've had coaches who were also mentors and told us we were football players and that at the end of the day they're there to build young men. I've also taken ap and honors classes and found that with this I've felt challenged and where i need to be.
My experience with Downey high school started behind a computer screen. My freshman year was exclusively online due to COVID-19. I loved being online because I had no distractions and it was easy to focus on my school work. That year I finished with 5 A's and, one B. My sophomore year I went back to school and had to wear a mask. I didn't like the masks at all because it felt weird and I couldn't really see people. I struggled because I couldn't keep focus and I had some differences with my teachers. Junior year was my toughest year academically speaking and actually going to school was better than sophomore year. I was drowned in work and tests and it got really overwhelming. My first semester of senior year was not bad at all. I was a football media manager and my classes were easy. I focused on applying for college. I struggled in Government because I couldn't keep up with the notes which didn't help me. I loved the senior activities, I had and I look forward to the upcoming events.
Downey High School has been a great experience, it has given me challenges and helped me grow academically and personally.
