Matt Rempe Appears To Decline Fight With Tom Wilson As Tension Builds For Capitals & Rangers In Game 3 - The Hockey News Washington Capitals News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

WASHINGTON — The Tom Wilson-Matt Rempe storyline also took on new life at Capital One Arena on Friday as the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers in Game 3, but it fell short as Rempe appeared to turn down Wilson's request to dance.

Following his high hit on Trevor van Riemsdyk that knocked the defenseman out of the game, Rempe was skating when Wilson came over to him, pushing and shoving while shaking his gloves.

Rempe declined, though, as Wilson gave him a shove and continued to exchange words with him.

For Wilson, it was an attempt to provide his team with a spark and avenge the injured van Riemsdyk. However, at that point, Rempe's Rangers were leading 2-1, and a fight wouldn't be smart at that point in a playoff game that can put New York one win away from a sweep.
