Bad Langensalza — Spas, Check; Nature, Check; Castle, Check.

If you have any pictures of Germany floating in your head, you probably have a town like Bad Langensalza in there. Even though the buildings in this town are not all that old (because it was damaged in the 18th century), residents reconstructed a lot of it and turned it into a tourist hot spot.

One of the things that every tourist goes to are the sulfur baths. The “Bad” in Bad Langensalza means that it is a spa or resort town. These baths were thought to cure many different ailments when they were discovered in 1811, but now, they are mostly used for relaxing.

Once you have finished the whole spa experience, make sure to take a trip to the Hainich National Park. If you come to this park, which is just west of Bad Langensalza, you can participate in a tour or a hike. Children will love the organized forest searches, that will educate them about what is in this area.

This city in Thuringia is also very famous for the ruins of the medieval castle and the old part of town. If you look at some of the souvenirs that you can find in the touristy areas of town, you can find that the town looks surprisingly the same as it did more than 100 years ago. One example: The old castle is just a ruin, but still interesting.

Probably the most photographed place in the city is the Berg Church. This old church stands out when you are looking at the city from above and is built in the medieval style.

Finally, those wanting to know more about the history should make sure to visit the city museum. This museum provides information on the history of the area, including the connection that Henry IV has to this town.
