Prosecutors in Ontario County have shed new light on an active case involving a Canandaigua man who’s accused of rape. At this point, the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office believes there could be more victims.
In late-April Joshua Abril-Alicea, 28, of Canandaigua, was arrested by state police and charged with one count of third-degree rape for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 17.
New York State Police were at Abril-Alicea’s apartment to serve a search warrant when they observed Abril Alicea leave his apartment with a young girl. After safely separating the two, the child was interviewed and disclosed that Abril-Alicea had raped her. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Victoria Porter, according to the Ontario County DA’s Office. They say the matter remains pending in local criminal court at this time. Abril-Alicea is currently being held at the Ontario County Jail with bail set at $7,500 cash, $15,000 secured bond, and $25,000 partially-secured bond.
“This case is currently in the early stages of prosecution. However, based upon the investigation to date, the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, New York State Police, and local members of the Federal Bureau of Investigations are concerned that there are additional victims of Abril-Alicea that have yet to come forward to law enforcement,” said Porter. “We are working hand in hand with local, state, and federal authorities to ensure that anyone who has been victimized by Abril-Alicea reports what occurred to law enforcement.”
Anyone with information related to Abril-Alicea’s arrest or who wishes to come forward regarding other incidents involving Abril-Alicea are asked to call New York State Police, Troop E Headquarters at (585) 398-4100 or email [email protected].
