Briana Nicole Henry on Her Decision to Exit GH: “I Decided It Was Time to Move On”

Photo: ABC

On Monday’s episode, GH viewers learned that Jordan will need to start dialysis and treatment at a specialty clinic in Albany from kidney damage and suffering renal failure.  But on Tuesday, fans of the ABC daytime drama series learned that Briana Nicole Henry has left the show, all her decision, according to her post on Instagram.

A Daytime Emmy nominee this year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, Briana shared the news on her departure expressing: “I suppose it is that time isn’t it. As I celebrated my third year of being on General Hospital yesterday, I also watched my last episode as Jordan Ashford air. People kept asking me how it felt to have ended my time on the show, and it wasn’t until yesterday that it really sank in, as I watched Jordan’s goodbye to her family and knew the tears you saw were real tears between not just colleagues but friends. I decided it was time for me to move on from @generalhospitalabc and I got nothing but love and support from everyone involved. Not to mention was given the most beautiful send of that left me quite literally shaken.  I’d like to take a second to thank every single person in my @generalhospitalabc family that helped me make GH my home over the last three years, especially @fvalentinigh . From the crew, to my cast mates to our security guard Emma, there were multiple people on any given day that brought such a smile and warmth to my heart.”

Briana finished her post with, “When I started GH it was my first opportunity as a series regular, and to get the opportunity to throw myself into Jordan for the last three years and work with some truly incredible actors has been an honor. Thanks for holding space for me to grow. I am a better actor because of the time I spent within those walls and will forever be grateful for the way the show nurtured and challenged my ability.  To the fans, it took me a while to win you over, but once you saw my heart you made me feel so much love. I hope I brought something unique and honest to your beloved character of Jordan Ashford, she’s one helluva woman. Until next time loves 👋🏾.”

This will be the second Jordan to exit General Hospital.  The role was originated by Vinessa Antoine, and Henry took it over for the last three years.

So, sad to see Briana leave GH? Should the show recast? Comment below.

Going to miss her.

Honestly, I’m okay with this. I really liked Vinessa Antoine in the role and I never warmed up to Briana’s version of Jordan. I also find it hard to believe T.J. can be her son given the age difference between the actors is only a few years. Hopefully the PCPD can have a competent police commissioner now. And I was sure the writers were moving towards a Shawn/Jordan pairing, but it looks like they’re heading in another direction.

I wish her well in other endeavors, but I won’t miss the character much.

I wasn’t aware she was leaving but glad I read this after watching the episode.

Both actresses were excellent in their portaral of Jordan, hope we see Jordan V3

I thought that exit looked “final”. Guess I was right….

Well, an optimistic Devil would hope the original Jordan was coming back. Yeah, she’s got the CBC show, but they only do 6 episodes a year, for Hell’s sake. So GH should be able to work around that schedule. Biggest obstacle there is that it is filmed in Canada, and getting back & forth across the border has become a pain in the pointy-tailed ass, due to the pandemic.

Maybe Jordan’s going to the same “rehab facility” where Lulu is. Or perhaps the same place where Mike Corbin went for his gambling addiction. You know, the type of facility where the treatment takes YEARS, as opposed to weeks.

Best wishes to her. I liked her portrayal of Jordan. Such a tearful episode. I’m sad to see her go.

I liked her too and will miss her on GH! Wishing her great success in her future endeavors!

I enjoyed her role as Jordan but I don’t blame her for leaving. She didn’t have much to really do anymore and they didn’t utilize the three men that could have been a part of her life, giving all their attention to Portia now. I know she’ll land on her feet and find someplace else that appreciates her beauty and talents.

Hi Violet 🙂
Her leaving was a surprise..
It would be great if Curtis replaced her
as the Commissioner…
Curtis would be a good Commissioner…
His bar is gawd awful!!…
It’s beyond tacky and cheap-looking.
The tiny tiny bar and the lighted tables
are horrible and it looks to be about the size
of my bedroom….
Ditch the tacky bar- set it on fire and
have Curtis as the new PCPD Commissioner..

SuOOO,
You are too funny. Maybe it’s as big as your B.R, but do you have a fully stocked bar in yours? Ha, ha. You are right though about Curtis being the Commissioner, but I don’t know if he has the self control. You know the saying, Fools Rush In Where Angels Fear To Tread ? That’s our Curtis.

Took some time, but she won me over! I ended up liking her better as Jordan. I am so sad that she left!

Sorry to see her go. She did a great job with the role. Wishing Ms. Henry all the best.

Was she too young for the role? Sure. However, she’s a good actress with a soothing voice who’ll do well post soaps.

The role will likely be recast. Having Jordan off the canvas for 3-6 months may be a good thing – with all the recent additions to the contract cast

Like others have mentioned, Briana portraying 40+ with a son in med school is a tough sell but I must say it takes a hell of an actress to make that obvious age discrepancy somewhat believable. There’s is no doubt in my mind that the sky’s the limit for this terrific actress. Well done Briana!

I would love her to come over to YR to cause conflict for Amanda. Then Amanda could take on more of “Hillary” attitude. She’s beautiful love to her on YR canvas.

YESSS. SHE SHOULD BE RECAST

I really liked this Jordan and I’m sorry to see her go. She is beautiful and played the role of Jordan so sincere. I would rather Portia leave, there isn’t any chemistry between her and Curtis.

As I watched that episode, I kept thinking out loud to myself “OMG! She’s leaving the show!!!” And then when Curtis went into her ER room I could tell something was much different in his delivery of lines and emotions. The soap PI in me knew BNH was out. Come the next day, I was right. It took a long time for me to just accept her as Jordan — but I still, like many of you, could not get past the visible age non-difference of her and TJ. This had to have been in the works for awhile. I wish her all the best out in LaLa Land — she’s got the talent, that’s for sure.

But the 3 good things that will come from BNH leaving are: 1) The character of Jordan can take a time out temporarily until a suitable actress is hired to give us version 3 of Ms. Ashford. After Cyrus was carted off to prison, it felt like Jordan had been written into a corner & they didn’t know what to do with her.
2) That suitable actress will be age appropriate “looking”. I’ve got to think the show knows they need an African-American actress with the chops and the looks to be the next one to portray Jordan. How can they not? I mean, how many times has Carly been recast? Lol!
3) This is Brook Kerr’s (Portia) chance to step it up and be GH’s new African-American Leading Actress. I LOVED how Portia and Jordan were on the slow boat to China to becoming friends but I also thought the character of Portia was always taking a back seat in everything but now with Jordan off canvas for the foreseeable future, the character of Portia can bloom, grow, & shine. Fingers crossed.

Oh — and did ANYONE ELSE think it was a tad odd that Aunt Stella never showed up at the hospital? Was Vernee unavailable? I just can’t imagine she’d want to miss being apart of those scenes. Hmmmm……

These scenes were filmed after GH’s summer break. At that point, Vernee would probably have been back taping her prime time show and unavailable.

Agreed on giving Brook Kerr her moment in the sun. Brook would’ve made a good Jordan. Not sure why they didn’t approach her when VA left. Portia’s an interesting character and a doctor on show that’s supposed to be set in a hospital.

Jordan Ashford Ashford’s (we still don’t know her maiden name!) break will hopefully get us some more Mac screen time.

I read a long time ago that Phyllis may have a relationship with Portia. She did mention to someone a while ago that she had lost a daughter, who better than Portia and Trina could certainly use a grandmother when her mother tells her who her real daddy is. She’ll most likely be upset until she realizes that she has two great dad’s.

I Hope Briana returns as Jordan, it not recast the position, there is too much going on in Port Charles

The Bar Where Johnny Wactor Worked Before He Was Killed & Came Under Fire From Co-Worker, Anita Joy, Shares, “We are Actively Researching Additional Safety Measures For Our Staff.”

After the tragic events surrounding the death of former General Hospital star Johnny Wactor (Ex-Brando Corbin) came to light, now the last place he worked, the Level 8 bar in downtown Los Angeles, has taken to social media.

Wactor died with a bullet to the chest, when he and co-worker, Anita Joy, were walking to their cars in the streets of Los Angeles in the wee hours of the morning on May 25th, and came upon three masked thieves wearing masks were trying to steal the catalytic converter from Johnny’s vehicle.

When Wactor tried to approach one of the men, he was shot and killed.  In the aftermath, Anita Joy revealed that Level 8 has not provided proper parking for its employees on her Instagram post expressing, “These criminals need to be caught – Level 8 needs to provide parking for their late hour staff as they originally promised – This cannot be something that isn’t responded to with action, it needs to be addressed in a manner to prevent anything like this ever happening again to the best of their ability – Level 8 needs to contribute to Johnny’s family to honor and respect him for all the hard work and effort he did for them.”

Now, on a post on the bar’s Instagram account they say they are looking into ways to keep their employees safer, expressing, “At Level 8, we take safety very seriously. Since we opened, we have provided the option for security escorts to the nearby parking lot to our staff after hours. And in light of this tragic incident, we have been talking to our team and professionals in the field, and are actively researching additional safety measures for our staff. We understand that a tragedy such as this impacts everyone differently and profoundly. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for everyone at Level 8. ”

Level 8 also shared on the loss of their co-worker: “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn a valued and cherished team member, Johnny Wactor, whom we lost to a random act of violence a week ago. This has been difficult to process for all who knew him. He was beloved amongst his peers and co-workers, and we will all miss his talent and generous spirit. Our hearts go out to his family and everyone affected by this senseless, terrible tragedy. ”

What do you think about Level 8’s statement that they are looking into more safety measures for their staff, especially given that Anita Joy took them to task for the bar not having employee-specific parking that is safe, which might have saved the life of Johnny Wactor? Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Alexis Mourns Gregory Then Has a Showdown With Ava

On the Wednesday, May 29th episode of General Hospital, Alexis was having quite the emotional and trying day played to perfection by two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Nancy Lee Grahn.

In story, Finn (Michael Easton) stops by to see Alexis, who is reeling from the news of Gregory’s (Gregory Harrison) death. Wanting to talk about Gregory and to be there for Finn, Alexis listens to what happened when Finn found Gregory passed away in his bed. He then admits he drank a third of a bottle of bourbon sent as a gift from the Cerullos as part of Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptial celebration.

Alexis says it makes sense that he drank, as he just went through a tragic loss and so he had a reason to break his sobriety. He says it doesn’t excuse what he did. Alexis tries to help Finn forgive himself. He knows she suffered a loss and is mourning Gregory, too.  She admits she wanted to drink, but she has not had one. She thinks it might be a two-a-day meeting kind of thing for them for a while. Finn says, he won’t drink again. She says, “For now.” They remain there for each other through their struggles.

Later, Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) comes by and Alexis apologizes to her for not being able to attend the reading of Gregory’s will, but she has a feeling he made her literary executor. Diane sort of confirms it. Alexis says she on her way to visit Ava (Maura West).  She regrets now, not being at Chase and Brook Lynn’s wedding, as she never thought that would be Gregory’s last day on earth.

Armed with what Fergus Bryne (Lane Davies) told her, Alexis heads to Ava’s gallery and accuses Ava of hiring Fergus to get her disbarred. Ava smugly admits she was very happy to watch her life implode after what she did to her late brother, Julian and how she threw him away.

Courtesy/ABC

At that point, Ava clearly tells Alexis she blames her for Julian’s death and that Alexis committed perjury and she has no one else to blame but herself. Alexis fires back that Ava will regret filing that complaint that helped get her disbarred.

It seems like more and more people have a reason to be angry and want payback against Ava? Could it be that Ava will be murdered? Are the rumors floating around that Maura West could be exiting the show possibly true, or is this all just a tease? What did you think of Nancy Lee Grahn’s performance in this episode?
