Great Bennett Singles Collection

I've waited a long time for a Tony Bennett collection that included his 1955 hit "Close Your Eyes" but sad to say this is not the original hit single from 1955 but a later jazzier recording from a later LP! It's great to hear many other recordings from the late 50s and early 60s. It is too bad that the compiler didn't have the chart information from Cashbox and Music Vendor (later Record World). I've added chart data for some songs which did not chart in Billboard. Please Driver (once more round the block) hit No. 21 in Cashbox. The original Close Your Eyes was No. 18 in Cashbox and No 20 in Music Vendor. May I Never Love Again hit No. 33 in Music Vendor while Don't Tell My Why hit No. 77 in the same magazine. Sing You Sinners topped at No. 78 in Music Vendor while Sold to the Man with the Broken Heart topped at No. 76. Cashbox charted Love Look Away at No. 83 while Smile hit No. 43 on their chart.
I Am is listed as hitting No. 9 but this is in error. The highest national chart position was 35. Some of Tony's very best singles material did
not chart and many of those are here.
The liner notes which discuss the many Italian American singers who were popular in the 50s say they came from the Northwestern US which may have been a typographical error as we know they came from the Northeastern US: New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia, etc.

Getting a 2-CD set at a great price, PLUS the options to listen to this album on my phone or no-CD-drive computer - buying music I love doesn't get better than this!

I have been a fan of Mr. Bennett since "Cold, Cold Heart" in 1951. Although he had many, many great recordings after 1963 (where this collection leaves off) there is no better representation of the incredible artistry of Tony Bennett than this collection. The sound quality of this collection is first-rate. Buy it while you can.

It fulfills a demand for her singles. Quality is alright. It's not totally professional in every way, for example: Baby Baby Baby is taken from an imperfect source and noise reduction has been applied imperfectly. Whippoorwill is a great song but they must have used an mp3 source, the pitch is a little high. Disc 2 shows the list of titles in your player but disc 1 does not.
I don't know what they mean by "remixed". That is impossible since the Coral studio tapes were destroyed in a fire ~2008 at Universal. So I wonder what their sources were. This music is public domain in many nations outside US so you could source it from anywhere.
The booklet contains notes on the records and her career. There were other singles that were obscure and not included. Don't worry, they always release singles regularly even if they don't chart. London had a few of those like If You Want Some Lovin' in 1951. And Lovin' Machine was very interesting on Coral in 1952.

My own fault for not checking out all the selections but I figured with 57 selections all her big hits would be included. I checked her other CD's offered at Amazon, and they too incomplee, so I will look at eBay or elsewhere. This one I will just give away.
