His father was a successful business executive and his career forced the family to move around a lot during Steve’s childhood.

By the time he was 12 years old, he had already lived in five countries.

The pressure of moving around a lot led him to become sort of a class clown in every new school as he was seeking attention and acceptance from the other students.

At around 15 years old Steve O Took his father’s camera and began creating videos of himself performing dangerous skateboarding stunts.

After high school she attended the University of Miami for a year and realized that he was not interested in what college had to offer so he dropped out and enrolled in Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College.

Career

Steve O started his career performing at a flea market circus and sending videos of himself to Big Brother‘s magazine editor.

The editor, Jeff Tremaine, ended up being the future director of Jackass, and once the project was conceived, he brought in Steve O.

Jackass became an instant hit with Johnny Knoxville and Steve O, and it spawned three seasons and seven movies.

Of these, Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, Jackass 3D, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, and Jackass Forever became box office hits.

Jackass & Touring

In 2001, Steve O released Don’t Try This at Home, which contained material from the series MTV had censored on air.

He then went on tour performing stunts, which were filmed to make Don’t Try This at Home Volume 2: The Tour

Steve O was arrested in 2002 for obscenity and assault after stapling his scrotum to his leg and second-degree battery.

He was sentenced to a year of supervised probation and forbidden from performing in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana.

In 2003, Steve O went on a European tour with Bam Margera but was arrested in Sweden after swallowing a condom containing cannabis before boarding the plane.

To make things more interesting, he then regurgitated the condom on stage, which is shown in Steve-O: Out on Bail

He reached a deal with Swedish authorities, paying a fine of 45,000 kronor ($5,800) as part of a plea bargain.

Only two months later, he was arrested at Lollapalooza in Pennsylvania for urinating on potato chips in public.

Despite not being as family-friendly as Larry the Cable Guy, Steve O’s outlandish stunts were his claim to fame, and they made him millions.

Life After Jackass

When Jackass ended in 2004, Steve O joined co-star Chris Pontius on MTV’s Wildboyz, which ran for four seasons.

In 2006, the pair appeared on The Dean Blundell Show, and Steve O urinated on the floor in front of a live audience.

After numerous complaints, the show’s hosts were suspended for a week after the stunt and had to apologize.

The same year, Steve O appeared as a house guest with Dennis Rodman on the reality show Love Island

In 2007, he hosted his own show, Dr. Steve-O, on the USA Network, where his goal was to “de-wussify” his guests.

A year later, he appeared on The Howard Stern Show to promote his rap album Hard as a Rock

However, in 2009, his behavior had become so erratic that his Jackass co-stars began to fear he was a danger to himself.

He was placed under a psychiatric hold before heading to rehab in order to get clean after years of drug abuse.

Making A Comeback

Steve O appeared on the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars after rehab and was eliminated in the sixth week.

In May 2009, he released Steve-O: Demise and Rise on MTV about how his life had been affected by alcohol and drugs.

The following year, he began touring and performing stand-up before appearing on Charlie Sheen’s roast on Comedy Central.

He started uploading regularly to YouTube in 2013 and posting many videos related to animal rights and factory farming.

In 2014, he was arrested for climbing a crane while protesting SeaWorld and used his jail time to draw awareness to unfair animal captivity.

Steve O celebrated 10 years of sobriety on March 9, 2018, and in 2020, he launched his podcast Steve-O’s Wild Ride on YouTube.

He began touring again in 2021 and appeared on the Discovery Channel in Jackass Shark Week with Knoxville and Pontius.

Favorite Quotes from Don Rickles

“Famous people are deceptive. Deep down, they’re just regular people. Like Larry King. We’ve been friends for forty years. He’s one of the few guys I know who’s really famous. One minute he’s talking to the president on his cell phone, and then the next minute he’s saying to me, ‘Do you think we ought to give the waiter another dollar?” – Don Rickles

“We were Orthodox Jews, but we really didn’t deserve it. I mean, bacon – my father said, ‘Don’t put bacon in the house,’ but we had bacon. We didn’t keep kosher. And we observed which today would be Conservative Jews. But in those days, we belonged to an Orthodox temple. So we made out we were Orthodox Jews, but we really weren’t.” – Don Rickles

“My mother was a big influence. She kept pushing me because I was very shy and inhibited. And schoolwork was very difficult for me because I couldn’t concentrate. I was failing almost every subject. To this day, I’m not too good at reading a book. But I was the president of my high school comedy group, and they treated me like a king.” – Don Rickles

“Sinatra had a lot of mood swings, but he was wonderful to my wife Barbara and to me. He made no bones about who he liked and who he loved, and he had this great charisma. When he walked into a room, it stopped. I’ve only seen that happen with Ronald Reagan.” – Don Rickles

“At 90, I’m still working a couple of dates a month. My mind is very sharp on the stage, so why not? This may sound corny, but I do it because people – young and old – still come to see me, and they’re very enthusiastic about my work. They treat me like the Godfather.” – Don Rickles
