About “The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy”

The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy is the 7th solo studio album by Rob Zombie released on March 12, 2021.

This marks Zombie’s first album to be released by independent label, Nuclear Blast Records, after his deal with Zodiac Swan Records, T-Boy Records, and Universal Music Group ended. It also marks Zombie’s first original release in almost five years after his 6th solo album, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser, which had released on April 29, 2016, although he had released a cover of English band, The Beatles' “Helter Skelter”, with Marilyn Manson on July 11, 2018.

The album is entirely produced by one of Zombie’s longtime friend, Zeuss, as well as entirely mixed and mastered by him. Zeuss had worked on Zombie’s projects and songs before.

Back in 2018, Zombie stated in an interview with “Whiplash”, the KLOS radio show hosted by Full Metal Jackie, that the music on his upcoming album will be “much more complicated structurally”. According to Rob, his goal on his next album has once again been to explore new territory without deviating too much from his tried-and-tested formula.

The original plan was to release the album in 2019. During an interview at January 2019, guitarist John 5 described the album at a Talk Toomey podcast , stating:

“It’s hooky and musical, and badass. The best Zombie record to date—better than White Zombie anything…He went nuts on this one. I’m telling you, it’s the best Zombie record you guys will hear. And we’re going to have a big tour. We’re going to do videos, and you know, I’ve been in the band with the guy forever and I just love him”.

Later on, in the same year, with an interview from Revolver, John 5 stated that Zombie’s new music:

Heavy, very heavy. It’s just a heavy Zombie record with great hooks. It’s very, very musical, and a hard-hitting Zombie record. I think people are really gonna dig it. I’m a Zombie fan, and if I heard it, I’d be like, ‘Oh my God, this is brutal.’ I’m really excited about it!

In the same year, Rob Zombie spoke about his much anticipated seventh album release to NME in 2019 stating:

The record’s definitely finished and…I think it’s the best record we’ve ever made. It’s a very big, crazy and complex record that I’m really excited to finally be able to release. I just had to get everything with 3 From Hell completely finished before we got into that, but my plan now is to start shooting some big videos for the album around January so that we can release it early next year."

In early October of 2020, John 5 stated to Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station about the status of Rob Zombie’s long-awaited new studio album, stating:

You will be seeing something soon, that’s all I say. Very, very, very soon. It’s coming very soon… We’re excited. I’m more excited than anyone, that’s for sure.

On October 30, 2020, Zombie released the first single for the album, The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition), with the music video also released on the same day. Zombie also announced the album on the same day, revealing both the cover art and the tracklist, as well as being available for pre-order both on the Nuclear Blast & Rob Zombie website.

On January 29, 2021, Zombie released the second single for the album, The Eternal Struggles of The Howling Man, with the music video also being released on the same day.

On March 2, 2021, Zombie released the official tracklist on Instagram, with a drawing he did when he was 14 years old. It was finally released on March 12, 2021, with new limited editions of the physical version also being released.

  • What have the artist said about the song?

I’m never really sure what inspires anything, to be honest. I’m always just taking things in all the time, and little pieces of phrases stick in my head. So I say it as a joke, but I also mean it: The title means the sounds coming off the record. When I’m recording, there is no plan—ever,” Zombie tells Apple Music. “I never go in thinking, ‘I want it to be catchy. I want it to be heavy.’ We just start, and the weirdness creates itself.

Whenever we start making a record, we don’t work in a sense where we go into a rehearsal space and jam and come up with riffs — we don’t function like that". “When I start, day one of recording, there’s no music that exists — we just record as we create. And after all these years, you kind of are just trying to find new things to do. Because there’s a certain formula you have, or you could have, that it would take about two seconds to write ‘that’ type of song. But you always wanna try to figure out new avenues that you can explore. And that’s really what it is.
