After picking up an offer just over a week ago on Jan. 24, things picked up quickly for Jaelyn Davis-Robinson when it came to LSU. After visits to Oregon and Boston College in the two weeks prior, Davis-Robinson headed to Baton Rouge this past weekend on a trip that all but secured the talented cornerback’s signature.

He was offered in person at Waxahachie (Texas) high school by LSU safeties coach Kerry Cooks and then cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples came in and furthered the recruitment. Davis-Robinson tweeted out his final four on Tuesday including LSU, Oregon, Boston College, and Wyoming, but on Wednesday morning, Davis-Robinson signed with LSU.

The addition gives the Tigers two true outside corners in the 2022 class as Davis-Robinson joins Laterrance Welch in the class along with fellow defensive back Jordan Allen. At 5-foot-11, Davis-Robinson is an impressive track athlete, running all of the sprinter events in his high school years and posting 100-meter dashes consistently in the 10.6 range.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite has him rated at .8816, making him the No. 71 player in Texas and the No. 47 cornerback in the class. He spent his junior year at Dallas powerhouse Desoto before moving to Waxahachie his senior year where he further upped his stock.

On Sunday, Davis-Robinson recapped his visit with 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, raving about Death Valley and Brian Kelly. Before that, he was already excited by the prospect of one of his dream schools offering him.

“[Cooks] came to my football facility and we talked for a few minutes and then he offered me on site,” Davis-Robinson said last week. “Then he offered me to go on a visit and I immediately knew I was going to take that visit. He told me ‘There’s only one LSU’ and that’s true. LSU has been one of my dream schools growing up, just watching Odell [Beckham], Jamarr [Chase], and Justin Jefferson all go through there, I knew it was a great opportunity.”

On the football field, he uses that speed to his advantage. He’s able to keep pace with opposing receivers and, therefore, can line up on the ball and get his hands dirty in man coverage.

“I would describe myself as a physical corner,” Davis-Robinson said. “My specialty is in man. I like being in press a lot and being able to get into a receiver's face.

"Right now, I’m focused on improving on coming out of my breaks and my off-man coverage.”

He says two of his favorite NFL players to watch and study are Jalen Ramsey and Jaycee Horn at the moment.

It’s a quality addition for Kelly’s team, allowing them to begin to rebuild the depth at the cornerback position after the mass amount of departures this offseason. Not only is this a quality find from the new coaching staff, but it begins to build a Texas base moving forward.
