"Travis has key experience running benches at the junior, AHL, and NHL levels and knows that there are no shortcuts to success," Fitzgerald said. "He is a high-demanding individual who is familiar with the group and excited about working to get us back on track."
Per the official press release, Green will start in his role at Tuesday's morning skate in advance of that night's game versus Florida. He will lead the staff of existing assistants Ryan McGill, Chris Taylor, Sergei Brylin, and goaltending coach Dave Rogalski.
After losing Andrew Brunette to the Nashville Predators in May 2023, the Devils named Green Associate Coach on June 22, 2023.
"Travis has a wealth of coaching experience from his time at the junior, AHL, and NHL levels," Lindy Ruff said at the time of Green's hiring. "He is super excited about working with our team, and I know his attention to detail within the game will have a positive impact. Travis's energy and engaging personality are great assets for our group and a huge benefit when working with our players one-on-one."
Green was previously the Vancouver Canucks head coach from 2017-18 to 2021-22. He earned a 133-147-34 record. Additionally, Green coached the Canucks to the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
His history with Fitzgerald goes back to the early 90s when the two were teammates for the New York Islanders during the 1992-93 season.
Green will meet with the media following the team's 10:30 A.M. morning skate on Tuesday ahead of their game against the Florida Panthers.
