QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John’s University men closed their two-week homestand with a win Monday night, defeating Columbia University, 1-0, at Belson Stadium.

The Johnnies will enter their Big East opener at Xavier University Saturday night at 4-2-0.

Graduate transfer Lucas Bartlett heading home the game-winner in the 43rd minute. He has recorded a point in three consecutive games and four of his last five matches.

Atila Ashrafi registered his second assist of the season. Ashrafi’s other assist also came on a game-winner, as he set up Brandon Knapp’s decisive tally against UAlbany Aug. 30.

Goalkeeper Luka Gavran registered his third clean sheet in five opportunities at home this season. The redshirt junior from Hamilton, Ontario was not credited with an official save, but lowered his goals-against average to 0.83. Bartlett, Matt Chandler, Rafael Bustamante and Ethan Shaw all logged a full 90 minutes and helped anchor efforts on defense.
