Evil, the CBS original turned Paramount+ hit, is creeping toward its final season. Come Thursday, May 23, the show's viewers will be on their last journey with Kristen Bouchard, David Acosta, and Ben Shakir. If you've never tuned into the supernatural drama now is your chance to binge it before the fourth season arrives. And, no, you don't need a Paramount+ subscription to do so.

One of the benefits of studio's licensing their content to other streamers is that interested viewers get an opportunity to taste test a popular series without having to add yet another subscription to their monthly bill. As such, you'll be happy to know that the first two seasons of Evil are available to stream on Netflix. There's been no word on if the third season will make its way to the platform ahead of season 4's premiere on Paramount+, however, there is a way you can watch season 3 for free!

Presumably for a limited time, Paramount+'s Youtube channel is hosting all 10 episodes in the third season, giving us another means of catching up on the show. But, if you've never watched Evil, there are some important content and elements to note so that you're prepared.

What is Evil about?

Put simply, the series follows the partnership between forensic psychologist Dr. Kristen Bouchard, technology contractor Ben Shakir, and Catholic seminarian David Acosta. The trio work together to investigate supernatural occurrence that the Catholic Church deems worthy of a closer look. Among the three, only David's faith is unshakeable. Both Kristen and Ben are skeptics when it comes to faith and the practice of religion though they do come from different backgrounds--Kristen was raised with the tenants of Christianity while Ben's religious traditions stem from Islam.

Their main antagonist is Dr. Leland Towsend, a forensic psychologist whose evil deeds run far deeper than his obsession with Kristen and her family. Though she may be skeptical of the fight between good and evil in the supernatural sense, Satan and his underlings believe very strongly in her and her ability to get in their way.

Given the premise of Evil, viewers can expect a rather intense exploration of faith and religion. This very much is a series that leans heavily into the supernatural and depictions of demons. Body horror, grotesque imagery, and disturbing storylines are par for the course. This is not a series that shies away from discussing the controversies of the Catholic Church either. Kristen, Ben, and David often discuss their positions on faith and the practice of religion during their case work.

The deeper you delve into the series, the more unsettling it gets. Its rating also goes from TV-14 to TV-MA. This is because the first two seasons aired on Network TV which has far more restrictions than streaming, so season 3's move to Paramount+ came with more coarse language, sexual content, and violence. If none of the above is a deterrent then you're likely to enjoy Evil and its off-beat, often poignant, storytelling.

The series is interested in complicating our understanding of the Heavens and the Earth, along with Hell, and our perceptions of religion, those who practice their faith, and those who choose to walk away from their belief in a higher power. It's also unexpectedly humorous and the chemistry between the three leads--Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi--really sells the show. Not to mention, Michael Emerson is deliciously creepy and off the wall as Leland.

Evil season 4 premieres Thursday, May 23 on Paramount+.
