Pursuing Knowledge+Goodness Together. SSSAS is a top college preparatory Episcopal School in Alexandria, Virginia that educates boys and girls from ages 3 through grade 12. SSSAS serves students from Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

We have three distinct campuses, each tailored to meet the needs of the students within. Lower School for ages 3 - grade 5; Middle School for grades 6-8; and Upper School for grades 9-12.

We set high academic standards through a demanding college-prep curriculum. Our academic program gives students a firm grasp of fundamental skills and develops their ability to think and write creatively, critically, and independently. Lower School Admission Video

Our program provides elementary-aged children with a firm foundation in essential skills and an introduction to abstract intellectual concepts. From the beginning, including our Reggio-inspired Early Saints for 3-year-olds and junior kindergarten, solid work habits are stressed, providing a foundation for students to learn organizational strategies and to acquire note- and test-taking skills.

St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School provided me with an excellent preparation for college. The academic standards are exceptional, offering a diverse range of classes tailored to individual interests and academic levels. The school boasts a renowned sports program, facilitating many students' paths to college with financial support. However, a notable challenge lies in the school's lack of diversity, despite ongoing efforts to address it. The student body can be somewhat cliquey, presenting difficulties in forging friendships for newcomers entering the high school program. Nonetheless, the general atmosphere remains friendly and welcoming.

Review St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School

With two very different children, both at SSSAS, we've had an amazing experience! Both boys started at the lower school campus and are now at middle and upper school, respectively. We've had nothing but support from teachers and administrators, especially as one of our children has gone through the struggles of a dyslexia and ADHD diagnosis to thriving academically and socially. I have long valued the school for their high academic standards and their focus on teaching their students to write well, so for me, building self confidence and teaching them to be strong self-advocates has been a priority. I've seen both boys grow tremendously in this area. These interpersonal skills enhance and strengthen their strong academic foundation. We also love that they offer an academic skills class to all middle school students. Executive function and study skills are something all students need as they move into high school, college, and beyond.

SSSAS is home to us! My two sons transferred from a public to private school education in middle school and we have never looked back. I will never forget the day my 6th grade son came home and said, "My teachers see me." It was the best decision and ideal time for them to join a smaller yet more inclusive community. The dedicated teachers know and inspire my boys to share their gifts and excel in all areas of school life- from playing piano at chapel to meeting one-on-one with a teacher to review history notes or even having choice in their service learning experiences. Also, the teachers are passionate about their subject matter and in teaching different kinds of learners. Their authentic experiences strengthen the academic program and make our students open-minded and more curious about the world around them. My boys know how fortunate they are to be part of such a caring community where meaningful relationships and a strong education matter!
