Gregg Allman's "One More Try: An Anthology" is a most unusual retrospective, for the 34 songs on the two CDs include only eight performances that have ever been released before. Perhaps this is an admission by Allman himself that his solo albums have been over-produced in a way that distracted from his primary asset, his blues-drenched baritone. That voice dominates the stripped-down demos, pre-orchestration alternate takes and live performances that make up the 26 previously unreleased tracks. Many of these rarities suffer from a lack of rhythmic push, but to hear Allman growling and purring his way through his favorite Muddy Waters, Jackson Browne and Bobby Bland tunes, as well as his own originals, is a genuine treat. Highlights include a jam with Johnny Winter, Buddy Miles, and Berry Oakley on "Wasted Words," an acoustic-guitar-and-vocal version of "Come and Go Blues" and a soulful reading of Percy Sledge's "When a Man Loves a Woman." --Geoffrey Himes

My husband dropped the bucks for this for my birthday (which won't be until May...) because I'd never seen this one before, and couldn't pass it up. I can't speak to the quality of product, but I'm so excited to have it. I'm looking forward to hearing it (or the parts I haven't already heard) and having it. Gregg Allman is a voice out of my teenage years, and being a Georgia girl, it's like listening to the voices of home to hear him/the Allman Brothers sing.

I love the mellow, rhythmic miracles from Gregg Allman's unreleased, secret solos. In this CD, you can hear him become. You can hear his pain, his struggles, his love, his passion, his angst. Full of internal struggles, this heartfelt, kind & blessed musician, puts a current spin on EVERY TRACK he records. I don't feel I am listening to something written years ago--or recorded years ago. Maybe that is part of what I gained from living & being born in America. Maybe it is a BIG PART what a true musician can do for us. Make us FEEL. I feel $200 would not have been too much for a CD I never get tired of because it has MUCH variety,talent, depth. This is music from the King of Southern Rock I can feel deep down in my Grinchiest heart anytime of the day or night. I LOVE it!

Order took a couple months to receive (came from Japan), but it was well worth it. CD came in as new condition and these songs are a perfect example of Greggs incredible talent and legacy. No orchestra, no overproduction, just Gregg on guitar, piano, and vocals save for a few gems such as Johnny Winter and Buddy Miles sitting in on "Wasted Words." A brilliant compilation that for some reason was pulled from print shortly after its release. I want to thank the seller for offering this CD. A+

I bought this a few years ago, it is still one of my favorites. This is a good view of what Gregg is like solo. Most of the songs are recorded well, the song selection is great and I love the vocals. His guitar & piano playing sound, so personal, that is what makes this cd so different. This is as raw as it gets, I hope there is more like this in the future. This shows how talented he really is. Keep in mind this is out of print and the price just keep's going up, so if you want this one you better hurry.

There's no such thing as too much Gregg Allman. This 2 CD Set will not disappoint the Allman fan!! In fact, it is a must have!! The discs highlight Gregg's ability to take an audio sensation and turn it into a physical reaction. You feel the pain in the sound. I am an avid blues fan, and few, if any, elicit the response I feel when I listen to Gregg Allman. His vocal style is a window into his soul, and he's giving the listener a glimpse in. This set is a treasure with it's previously unreleased tracks and remastered tracks!
