As a student/Senior at Hempfield Area Senior High school this school comes with many positives and negatives. Our school has an immense amount of spirit and involvement ability with school sports and provides a decent amount of clubs there are to join. But, there is a lack of resources and help available for students, and especially as a senior, it is difficult trying to figure out all of the information we need to know for college basically all on our own. There were not many opportunities for students to be educated on things we should know for college, especially scholarships, fafsa, and loans. Even when questions were asked, many advisors do not know the answers and usually leave us on our own. Though I have had my guidance counselor help me, there is only so much one person can do. I think it needs to be made a point to educate graduating students and even juniors on the importance of finding ways to get money in order to pay for college, as it is a huge deal in todays world.
The best part about Hempfield Area High school is the great community and the people in it. I admire the amazing teachers for always putting in their full effort in the classroom and the support for the students and their futures. There are plenty of clubs and activities to get involved with whether its sports, science, or theater, Hempfield does offer an array of activities to get involved with, each with their own great community of people. In addition to this there are also many academic opportunities through tutoring, advanced placement classes, and accelerated programs. While Hempfield's community and activities are really spectacular, there is always room for improvement. As Hempfield is such a big school sometimes it's easy to get lost in the crowd. One example of improvement could be expanding the guidance counselor team so the counselors can help students more individually rather than juggling hundreds of kids each. Overall Hempfield is a great school that's always improving.
The hempfield area highschool had many different options for classes for students who were able to go into AP level learning and honors distribution but very little for people who were unable to work at that level. I think it would be better and give students more enjoyment in school if hempfield was able to give more diverse classes that that were lower level.
