52 FL High Schools Among Nation’s Best, U.S. News Says In Ranking

FLORIDA — Dozens of public high schools in Florida are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.

In the 2024 Best High Schools list, Florida ranks fifth among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 647 ranked schools in the Sunshine State, 52 are in the top 5 percent nationally and 242 were in the top 25 percent.

  • Pine View School, Osprey (Sarasota County Schools), ranked No. 18 nationally.
  • Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, Tamarac (Broward County Public Schools) ranked No. 41 nationally.
  • Westshore Junior/Senior High School, Melbourne (Brevard Public Schools) ranked No. 43 nationally.
  • Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School, Miami (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) ranked No. 51 nationally.

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well as strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.

  • Marine Academy of Science and Technology (MAST), North Miami (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) ranked No. 3 in Florida and No. 17 nationally.
  • Jose Marti MAST 6-12 Academy, Hialeah (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) ranked No. 4 in Florida and No. 18 nationally.
  • Design and Architecture Senior High School, Miami (Miami-Dade County Public Schools) ranked No. 5 in Florida and No. 20 nationally.

Charter schools
