I think that a string of witch murders really reigns you in, and then the idea of the Seven Deadly Sins being involved is (in my experience) very unique, and I love the idea of it. I do kind of wish the Seven Deadly Sins played a bigger role than what they traditionally are, but they still filled the role really well. There was a clear plot that was followed really well and written even better. I do wish there were some more action-packed scenes, and more spells, because you know, a witch, but maybe that's something book 2 will give me. The cliffhanger was also pretty insane and made me glad by 2nd book preorder came on time, although the signs pointed to it, for some reason, I just did not read into that foreshadowing, and I am here for it... kinda. (view spoiler) Although it took me quite some time to read, I was definitely in a bit of a slump after finishing the 4th Savage Lands book, and a rough week of work meant it took me longer to finish, but I still think the length was perfect for the story."Love is the most powerful magic. Above all else, remember that."Romance: I wouldn't classify this story as a romance by any means. I think there's some angst, but it's clear there is no resolve or continuation of that, at least in this book. I was hoping for some action between Emilia and Wrath, and there was definitely some banter, but it didn't amount to much. Although there is a lack of romance in this story, it's not taking away from the book because it wasn't meant to be a romance story."One day you'll call me Death. For now, Wrath will do."Characters: I do love me these characters. I think for the most part the Seven Deadly Sin characters are portrayed pretty well, but I do wish there was more action based on their Sin, for some of them. I also love Emilia, I love that she's clearly powerful and strong, but she's not portrayed as this big and powerful, fighter MC that a lot of other books do to their female leads. Her character development in the grief of her sister's passing, and her fight for vengeance, is incredibly written. I wish that we had some more time to find out what Vittoria was like because she gets described as certain things after she passed that we didn't get to read as her personality trait, so it felt like a slight disconnect.World-Building: I think the world-building was good. I was confused in regards to placement at times, but in terms of descriptions, it was really well written. There wasn't a point where I felt overwhelmed, or couldn't imagine a place that was being described."You always have the power of choice, even when those choices seem limited. Never forget that."Overall, this is definitely a great book, but there are a couple of things I feel like we're lacking in order to get it to that 5-star review, but I would reread this book, and likely will when the 3rd book comes out. It's a great Spooktober read, and I am excited to get to the 2nd book. There is a lot of hype behind this book, and don't get me wrong it is a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend to others to read, but in my opinion, there are other books I would hype up more than I would this book.
