Snyder is a school with beautiful murals on the lockers, the stairwells, and the walls. A school that centers around dance, art, and fashion. A school with clubs and safe spaces to play video games and eat lunch. Every teacher I've had at Snyder had been funny, approachable, but more importantly, patient. Teachers who give chances, twice, thrice, and yet again. Snyder is not a bad school, though it is not the creme de la creme when it comes test scores, overall academics and student behavior. However, I find that more often than not that it is not caused by faculty incompetence, but by an issue in the community itself. In order to better life within the confines of the school, measures should be taken to better life outside out of it. I would like Snyder to be a place where classes aren't interrupted by belligerent behavior. I would like to see Snyder have a sense of unity and desire to better the environment that most of us will share for four years.
Snyder High School is a community situated in Ward F of Jersey City. Our school was poorly lite until our Parent's Council took a stand to repair the school outside lights. However the inside lighting still needs work. There's not much structure in the school. There are so many kids running the halls, high suspension rates, and kids get sent home when the administration feels the student's clothing material is not appropriate. Our school magnet program does not offer any programs in Engineering or the medical field. Apparently the district's narrow thinking does not feel people of color are not interested in these professions.l
There were a few solid goodies to take out of Snyder High School. Most Academics there are simple to understand while others greatly help with a student's future life in the form of financial classes and challenging AP classes. However what I would most likely want to change is an issue regarding about fighting being a common occurrence in the school. The frequency of it happening is abnormal, being at most 4 fights in the span of one day. This makes getting in and out of classes dangerous and frightening to some students such as myself. If this issue were to be fixed, then it would serve as a great base for the school to thrive again academically.
