I wouldn’t choose to live anywhere else in the world. This is the only place I’ve ever felt welcomed everywhere I go without feeling judged. Walking everywhere is easy and pleasant with the feeling of nature surrounding you almost everywhere you go. It’s easy to stay active. You can easily find amazing views of the Bay to enjoy even if they’re not directly out your home’s window. The elementary schools feel very diverse compared to where we’ve lived before. The public libraries are very accessible and well stocked. My child has never been happier. It’s a wonderful place to raise a family. And last but not least you can find great healthy food everywhere.
Berkeley is a diverse area with a rich, campus life, full of students from all cultural backgrounds. Immersing myself in the many student-run organizations, Berkeley has taught me how different ways of thinking can mix together to create something beautiful, whether that be an engineering project or a dance choreography. The city, however, is nowhere close to perfect, and the students are trapped in a grim, dangerous environment where active shooters, violent criminals, and the homeless roam the streets. I have even encountered an active shooter on campus where a weapon was pulled out in front of my face.
