  • The future of the Tomorrowverse after the Justice League trilogy is uncertain.

The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy has received its first trailer. The three-part story will adapt one of the most popular comic book events ever for DC's animated Tomorrowverse continuity. The Tomorrowverse exists outside of the upcoming DC Universe's continuity, which separates the Crisis on Infinite Earths movie trilogy from the Creature Commandos animated series, the first of the upcoming DCU projects.

Warner Bros. Entertainment shared the first trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Parts 1-3, with the three movies set to arrive in 2024.

The trailer features returning characters from the Tomorrowverse continuity, such as Jensen Ackles' Batman, Darren Criss' Superman, Matt Bomer's The Flash, and more. Much like the original comic book version of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the animated Justice League movie trilogy sees Earth's heroes having to stop multiverse-wide destruction. The trailer also introduces the Crime Syndicate to the Tomorrowverse.

The New DC Universe Could Lead To The End Of The Tomorrowverse

The status of DC's animated Tomorrowverse continuity after the end of the upcoming Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy has yet to be revealed. However, given the nature of the story the movies will be adapting, it seems like a reboot of the animated universe might be in order. Having only started in 2020 with Superman: Man of Tomorrow, it seems too early for the Tomorrowverse to end; however, the comic book Crisis on Infinite Earths served to reboot DC Comics, which might play out similarly now.

A reboot of DC's animated continuity would not even be unheard of, as the Tomorrowverse itself came after a reboot. The DC Animated Movie Universe ended in 2020 with Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. That movie's ending spawned a new universe, the Tomorrowverse. Now, the new animated shared universe might be coming to a similar close, with a Justice League movie trilogy rebooting the universe instead of a single film.

The Tomorrowverse's reboot after Crisis on Infinite Earths becomes even more likely due to James Gunn's new DC Universe. The DCU will consist of both live-action and animation, with animated movies and series seeing the live-action actors reprise their roles. Because of that, it would make sense for the animated Justice League trilogy to end the Tomorrowverse. With all three movies releasing in 2024, the same year that Creature Commandos starts the new DCU, the Tomorrowverse might end exactly like it started, with a brand-new universe taking its place in the same year following the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.
