While visiting family in the area we stopped to tour the mansion and gardens. The docent that lead our tour was informative and knowledgeable about the mansion and the area. It was a pleasure to tour this well kept facility. The furnishings were well kept also. We would go back to visit again.

Darlene our tour guide was delightful, she made the home come to life with her personal experience of the area as a child. The love for this home is evident in her presentation. I would say this was one of the best restored homes I have seen. The recent purchase by the historical organization has presented some new challenges with restoration desperately needed in the exterior. Hopefully they will continue the interior as well.

It is a work in progress but very much worth seeing. It gives a glimpse into the life of a pre-Civil war politician's lifestyle. The guided tour by a knowledgeable guide was very informative and enjoyable.

Visiting Starved Rock State Park decided to take a side trip and came across Reddick Mansion Great tour guides. Loved seeing a great American story of an Irish immigrant making his way from nothing to a leader in the county and then a state senator. The town needs to work on the outside of the mansion to preserve a real gem.

Called to make sure the mansion was open for tours as it was a holiday weekend. Lorraine and the other docent were very warm and welcoming. Both of them gave wonderful narratives on the house, its inhabitants and the 158-year history of its existence. The city of Ottawa has a true Gem that deserves to be restored, preserved and brought to the attention of the tourists that pass through the area. It is definitely worth your time to visit!

The house is stunning without being fully restored. The volunteers do a great job with the gardens, the decorating, and especially the tours. So many period appropriate items in the mansion. We went in October for the ghost walk and had a fabulous time. I highly recommend visiting.

I visited historic downtown Ottawa, Illinois for the first time yesterday and must say that I am extremely impressed.

I was specifically wanting to visit the site of the first Lincoln-Douglas debates (being a Lincoln afficianado and having visited two of the seven sites, this being my third one). When I visited, there was a big festival going on (River Days, I believe it is called).

I was struck immediately by the historic district as a whole with its many old churches, mansions and the historic Lincoln-Douglas debate site and monument in Washington Park.

The Reddick Mansion and Gardens is one such intact historic mansion. There are tours of the mansion, and in the guest house there is a free museum and interpretive center with a very knowledgeable staff on hand ready to answer any questions and give advice for a more in depth experience.

It is educational, historic, culturally significant and has a very interesting personal story about Reddick.

The tours are free but donations are suggested.

We enjoyed the tour guide who explained the architecture, details of the home's furnishings, and the labor that took to run the home on a daily basis.

We were planning to hike at Starved Rock but it was raining so we took this tour instead and we were so glad we did! The docent gave us a wonderful 90 minute tour packed with interesting information about the house and the Reddick family. Very beautiful! Highly recommend!
