SAC CITY, Iowa — Family members held a news conference Thursday morning to release information about the body of David Schultz being found Wednesday in a Sac County field.

Sarah Schultz, David’s wife, confirmed that her husband’s body had been located.

Sarah said, “We’re still in shock. I knew after being gone, after even two-three days that something bad happened ’cause he would never have not called even if he didn’t have his phone, so I know something was preventing him. I’m glad we know where he is now. There’s still a lot of questions, things don’t make sense. But we have him now so.”

An autopsy is being done Thursday by the State Medical Examiner’s Office, according to Sarah.

Jake Rowley, a member of the United Cajun Navy, a volunteer disaster recovery organization, joined Sarah at the news conference to discuss the search efforts. Rowley said the first two days of the search were conducted by law enforcement officials and the Cajun Navy joined the search on the third day.

He said the location where David’s body was found was within the area previously searched by officials on those first two days. According to Rowley, a fire official who was part of the initial law enforcement search volunteered when the Cajun Navy began its search and communicated the areas that had already been searched. Rowley said the Cajun Navy picked up where law enforcement left off.

“I can’t think of any reason why he would have walked a mile and a half out into the middle of a field and laid down and taken his coat off. And shut his truck off. Truckers don’t shut their trucks off. They don’t shut them off until they’re done for the day. He never would have shut the truck off. Things don’t add up, don’t line up. I suspect foul play,” said Sarah.

When asked how she felt about the investigation into her husband’s disappearance, Sara replied “I don’t really want to talk about that.”

Law enforcement officials did not participate in the news conference.

David Schultz had been missing since the early morning hours of November 21, 2023. He left his Wall Lake home the previous evening to go to work as a truck driver delivering a load of hogs from Eagle Grove to Sac City. His truck was found November 21st on the road, not pulled over, on northbound Highway 71 about five miles north of the Old Highway 20 intersection.
