La fémis—an outgrowth of L’IDHEC (L’Institut des hautes études cinématographiques), a graduate film academy established in 1943—is one of France’s leading schools. Founded in 1984 and located in the old Pathé studios on rue Francoeur in Paris, La fémis: école supérieure des métiers de l’image et du son, is supported by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. Over the last 20 years it has graduated not only renowned directors (Noémie Lvovsky, François Ozon), but also craftspeople and producers. La fémis includes six films—five by students who went on to substantial filmmaking careers, and one by a recent graduate whose work was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. All works in French, with English subtitles.
Organized by Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator, Department of Film and Media. Thanks to Marc Nicolas, Director of La fémis; Pascale Borenstein; and Thomas Rosso.
